That's good. I heard that they only have the rights to making The Hobbit until 2010, so no wonder they're trying to patch things up in a hurry.

I haven't picked up Children of Hurin yet. I probably will pick it up sometime soon though.

I'm both exited and worried about the Hobbit. I want it to get made by the same people who did the trilogy but I'm worried that my expectations will not be met just because I'm a die hard Murphy's Laws (all of them, not just the most famous one) believer. One of my personal favorites is: Nothing is so simple that it cannot be done wrong.

On a lighter note, there are lots of references to LOTR on tonight's Chuck. I only watched a few minutes so I don't know if it will be carried throughout the entire episode.

Most definitely....one remote to rule them all. I am loving the geekiness of this show.

I found children of hurin kinda long, especially since it's only 180 or so pages.

I wonder if there's any way we can campaign to get our old Lord of the Rings forum back. It stinks that no one can nominate it in the request section to get it's board back, since they only do polls for Music, Celebrities and TV shows. I wasn't around when it was first here, but I would like to see one.

I'm not saying that I don't appreciate this board, I really do. It makes me really happy that I finally have a LOTR thread to post in. It would just be awesome if there were some way we could get the old forum back.

I hope they let Peter Jackson make The Hobbit, it just wouldn't be right if someone else did.

Alas, where to put a Tolkien board at on this forum is a connudrum. Star Trek, HP and Star Wars have the same problem. What do you do with the whole "SciFi/Fantasy" grouping? This is mainly a TV forum, with forays into Music and the people that do one or both. These cornerstones of "geekdom" so to speak can fit in any of them, yet not well. Once a decision has been made as to what we do with the existing foundation subjects, I'm sure we can get it added to the request thread.

I think Peter's got the best grasp on what it'll need, plus he's a proven winner.

If The Hobbit is made, should they try to get Sirs Ian Holm and Ian McKellan to play Bilbo and Gandalf again? I doubt anyone could be Gollum besides Andy Sirkis. It's been a while since I read The Hobbit, are there any other shared characters? Maybe an elf or two?

I think Ian McKellen would be ok for Gandalf, but I think someone younger would have to be cast for Bilbo. Wasn't he a young hobbit at the time? I should really re-read that.

Let's see, there were what, 60 years between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring and Bilbo turned 111 in FOTR so he would have been a youngish Hobbit, right?

Yeah he was a young Hobbit then and i think they might have a bit of trouble making Ian Holms look that much younger. I have no idea who they could cast in his place though. They have to have Andy Serkis and Ian McKellan though.

They'll definitely have to have Andy Serkis back. It's just not the same without him.

They'd definitely need a younger actor for Bilbo.

Other characters in both stories? Other than Gandalf, Bilbo and Gollum, the only other one I can think of is Elrond.

No reason not to cast Hugo Weaving again, IMO.

I think Hugo's up for it.

Does anyone here have the Daughtry CD? Now you're wondering what this has to do with Middle Earth...track 10 is titled "There and Back Again." Sound familiar? Bilbo thinks about naming his memoirs There and Back Again, A Hobbit's Holiday.
