Middle Earth Appreciation #1

Jsebold87 asked about starting a LOTR thread on the Board Thread Guide thread so here it is. Discuss the books, the movies, tie-ins.

Personally I have the books in both hardback and paperback - I am willing to loan out the paperbacks to people I trust. I also have the movies in both their theatrical release and extended versions. I saw each movie in the theater 3 times (seemed appropriate for some reason). I've got both the Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit boardgames, though no one will play the trivial pursuit game with me. I've also got the four jigsaw puzzles with their decorative tins. Almost forgot, I've also got the soundtracks to each movie. And yes, I'm able to say with a straight face that I am not obsessed.

You're not obsessed dukesmom

Lets see.... i had the books for about 20 years, have the collectors edition of the extended movies with the little statues and the theatrical, soundtracks, trival pursuit, a few movie posters, movie books, location guide, my own One Ring, action figures, Sting, stamps and coins, named some of my pets after characters, not sure now how many times i saw the movies at the cinema but it was probably well over 5 time each including a midnight premiere actually in NZ for RotK, went to the world premiere parade in Wellington and got to see all the cast, visited some of the fliming locations while travelling around NZ for three weeks.

I've probably forgotten some but see dukesmom you're not obsessed

You can't beat The Kender. How's Frodo and Smeagol btw? Is the eye still playing up?

How open are we to expanding this to middle earth in general? The Hobbit, Children of Hurin, etc? Just wondering. I know there are lots of fans of the entire world, might as well talk about all of it.

I thought I might be able to change the thread title to "Middle Earth Appreciation #1" since I'm the one who started it but no such luck.

It's good to know my obsession pales compared to others. Now I've got proof I can show my family, friends, and co-workers.

Almost forgot, I've also got 2 other board games (never played) and I helped a friend get a couple of chess sets. I also have a couple of other middle earth books (including hardback and paperback Hobbits). That may be it. Did I mention that I've put together the jigsaw puzzles and glued them in position? One of these days I'll take them to a framer. Can't decide if I want them all in one frame or 4 separate.

hmm ... I thought there was a grace period of a week or two when you could edit your own thread titles. When you click on edit, do you see 'go advanced'? That gives you more options.

I wouldn't say I'm the biggest Tolkien fan....but I love middle earth some.

Dukesmom, if you can't do it, let me know and I'll take care of it for you. I'm interested if the advanced tab will work for you or not.

Heh, didn't even notice the "Go Advanced" button. It worked.

Now we just need it added to the Board Thread Guide.

I first read the Hobbit and LotR when I was in about grade 5, when the movies came out my original soft cover copies were pretty worn out, so I bought copies of the reissued books. My new set is actually signed by Elijah Wood - I don't normally collect signatures, but while I was out of town once a family member who was working on a movie with EW in it borrowed my book and got him to sign.

Children of Hurin, the Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales are sitting in my stack of books to be read.

I just looked on my bookshelf and I've got a copy of The Book of Lost Tales and The Silmarillion. I'm pretty sure I've never even opened the cover of the former and only read a few pages of the latter.

I agree... If I knew about that function I would have altered the Sanctuary title ages ago.

I used to have the Silmarillion but my older sister borrowed it years ago and it never came back.

Frodo is fine and Smeagol is ok now after his teeth dramas.

I still have it....but I can't make it through it any more....honestly, it was a lot of work.

I'll add it to the thread guide.

Thanks for starting this thread I was just going to create it, but then I saw this one. I would have started one sooner, but I haven't been around FF for the past 2 weeks.

I'm obviously a Tolkein fan as well. I own the 3 LOTR books, The Hobbit, and the Silmarillion. I also own the 3 LOTR extended version dvd boxsets. I've watched the movies countless times and listened to the commentary, and watched all of the bonus features. I haven't read the Silmarillion yet, I want to reread the LOTR trilogy again first, I haven't read it for about 5 years, time to read them again. I just finished reading The Hobbit for the first time in years a little while ago.

Has anyone heard any news about The Hobbit being made into a movie yet? I know it will be made, I just hope that they let Peter Jackson make it. Sam Raimi has volunteered to do it, but I'd rather have Peter back since I think he's the best man for the job.

Have you picked up the Children of Hurin yet?

As for the Hobbit movie, I think New Line is trying ot patch up with Peter so he'll eventually direct it. So far, New Line has moved from "Peter will never make this movie" to "You konw, Peter's such a great guy."
