There's currently a lot of controversy about The Golden Compass movie (and the series of books on which it is based). I still plan on seeing it, maybe this weekend if I can fit it into my schedule. Like so many times before, I wonder if the boycotts, etc., are actually going to encourage more people to see it just to see what all the fuss is about.

I'm sure the religious rite will skip it. Pullman was an admitted Athiest and has a very dim view of all religion in the world, and a very dim view of Catholocism. The movie however, has not been sanctured by the church. I know a few conservative religious groups are boycotting it though.

Stories are already saying the box office intake for the movie is disappointing. I probably won't have time this weekend to see it but I might be able to catch an early viewing on Thursday when I take the day off to take my dogs to the vet.

That's kind of sad, though it's suffered some bad reviews as well. Supposedly they've cut the ending short, saving it for the beginning of the second movie. The problem is, no second movie has been commissioned just yet.

Saw Aliens vs Predator today.

The story was so so, it riped ideas off from the other movies but the Aliens and the Predator looked awesome as always.

I still haven't gone to see anything in a theater over the holidays (have to stay home with the recovering puppy and by the sounds I'm hearing right now, I need to wrap this up). I did, however, rent a bunch of DVDs again including:

Spiderman 3
Split Second
Spectres
Tideland

Isn't split second the Rutger Hauer Movie?

As long as mass numbers of bugs are killed by a Predator, I'm all good.

Yes, Split Second starred Rutger Hauer, though I have no idea why that title was picked. It was a fun film, IMO.

Spectres was okay. Had a "Lifetime movie" feel to it.

I didn't really like Spider-man 3. I found it too long and cliche-ridden.

Tideland is interesting. I'm about half way through and need to get back to it.

Wasn't the alien in split second ultra quick?

I didn't see spiderman 3, and I refuse to, just because of the dancing scene.

Split Second: Not sure it was an alien, and although it was quick, I wouldn't say split second was accurate. Pretty sure a person couldn't see it until unless he had been injured by the creature.

Spider-man 3: The dancing scene was kind of painful. Some of the special effects with Sandman were cool, though.

Tideland: moved from interesting into gross, creepy, and disturbing. I would say weird but since it was a Terry Gilliam movie, that goes without saying.

New movie arrived in the mail today: Wolfen.

Spader did Wolf with Jack Nicholson and Michelle Pfeiffer in 1994. Wolfen is from 1981 and has Albert Finney, Edward James Olmos, and Gregory Hines.
