The series is set in the year 2517, after the arrival of humans in a new star system, and follows the adventures of the renegade crew of Serenity, a "Firefly-class" spaceship. The ensemble cast portrays the nine characters who live on Serenity. Whedon pitched the show as "nine people looking into the blackness of space and seeing nine different things". The show explores the lives of some people who fought on the losing side of a civil war and others who now make a living on the outskirts of the society, as part of the pioneer culture that exists on the fringes of their star system. In addition, it is a future where the only two surviving superpowers, the United States and China, fused to form the central federal government, called the Alliance, resulting in the fusion of the two cultures as well. According to Whedon's vision, "nothing will change in the future: technology will advance, but we will still have the same political, moral, and ethical problems as today."
The show blended elements from the space opera and Western genres, depicting humanity's future in a manner different from most contemporary science fiction programs in that there are no alien creatures or large space battles. Source

Because it's one of a kind show that became more than just a tv series.
Because the cast is out of this world amazing and we love them all.
Because it made "brown coat" another word for freedom fighter.
Because we now feel the need to use the word shiny a lot!
Because in this show the criminals are the good guys.

TFTNT. Oh and can I be added to the Browncoats list?

I especially love the title. I find myself using the term 'verse' a lot latey. I'm not religious so using the term 'God' doesn't sit well with me and calling God 'nature' all the time doesn't work either but for some reason 'verse' seems perfect. Plus it sounds much better than 'thank the universe'- yeah 'thank the 'verse'' sounds way better.

My favorite part of the OP is that picture of River in the end where it says Joss Whedon, I love that cap.

I'm a big fan of that gif, I could watch it all day and never get bored.
