I feel the same, Anne. I watched the series on DVD just last Fall for the first time and then Serenity. Wash's death did break my heart, though.

I think the Reavers are just about the scariest monsters ever conceived.

Wash's death is one of the most shocking for a "TV" show. I didn't see it coming. And they did deal with it...I like that too.

Yep, Reavers are pretty scary.

Wash's death broke my heart. Hell yeah they are very scary, I put them up with the Daleks and the Weeping Angels. Just freaking scary, they gave me nightmares.

At least we got to see the funeral.

Just the thought of Reavers is enough to give me a tingle down my spine.

I really didn't like the movie.

I found the feel of the movie very different from that of the show. Wash's death at the end seemed completely unnecessary and done just for the shock value.

Same for me, Chris. I guess the movie was ok; but actually seeing the Reavers and then the totally unneccessary death of Wash made it far less enjoyable than the series.

The death of Book and his colony of settlers was understandable in the context of Reavers attacking.
Still, instead of the light, humorous story-telling we loved, we got a sci-fi horror story.

Exactly! It changed the entire feel... I mean, Firefly had its menacing moments, but it was mostly about the lives of a marauding group of loveable rouges. Serenity was a run-of-the-mill sci-fi thriller with none of the charm of Firefly.

Thanks all for answering my question. I thought that the movie was the wrap to were Firefly was building to...so I didn't mind the more serious turn. I was okay with Wash's death too because there almost had to be a serious consequence to the gang.

"Charm" is the word. Serenity was sadly lacking in that department. You nailed it, Dan!

To me, the most enjoyable part of the movie was River's ass-kicking fight with the Reavers. That rocked.

Maybe it boils down to being ready to let go .. those who liked Serenity were willing to cut the cord; those who didn't like the movie are still longing for Firefly ...?

Perhaps you are right. I watched Firefly several years after it was canceled and after Serenity had been released. I was still upset on how Josh W ended two of his other shows...and I still find the Firefly was done the best justice.

What were the others? I think this is the only JW series I've seen.
