The Event #1:

The Event (stylized THE EVƎNT) is an American science fiction political thriller television series created by Nick Wauters for NBC. The show centers around 3 plots: One is about Sean Walker, a computer programmer whose girlfriend is kidnapped. The second is that of President Elias Martinez, the fictional President of the United States who must deal with all the events happening along with the detainees at Mount Inestranka. The final plot line is that of the detainees at Mount Inostranka. In the second episode of the first season it was revealed that the detainees are not of terrestrial origin.

Thanks for getting this started, Dan

How did you like the pilot episode?

I liked the pilot. The skipping in time was confusing after a while, but I like Jason Ritter (from his Joan of Arcadia days) and both Sarah Roemer and Taylor Cole is nice eye-candy, so I'll give it another go.

I wasn't too fond of the pilot and all the time skipping was the reason for that, thought it got a bit much and old soon. I still need to watch the second episode, so my feelings might change after watching it. Overall the story sounds interesting, so here's hope they'll manage to keep my attention with the upcoming episodes.

Oh well, there's worse than watching Jason Ritter

I think The Event could be good if they would just clean up the presentation and tighten the writing. The Pilot was borderline ridiculous...and I don't just mean the plane disappearing. If you are going to employ nonlinear narrative then it has to be up to standard. With recent movies like Inception and series like LOST using nonlinear storytelling, audiences have come to expect a certain quality to the way chronology is presented. The Event jumbles it up too much by mixing years, months, weeks and hours. Other things that bugged me...

-Sean rescues a stranger from drowning and doesn't find it strange that she wants to go snorkeling with him?!
-SUV tries to outrace a plane (Mythbusters should maybe try this)
-a plane is about to crash so the Secret Service ushers the President into a limo...that goes nowhere.
-Zeljko Ivanek once again cast as the obviously untrustworthy, smarmy official
-murder, kidnapping, hijacking, cover-up, assassination and 'non-humans' all thrown at us with barely any character development

Episode 2 was not much better.

However...episode 3 I liked. They slowed things down enough that we could follow both plot & character development. The twist at the end was probably the best twist of the series because it wasn't "foreshadowed" to us like some of the other surprises. And I like that Sean finally has a partner. It's too lonely trying to be a solo hero.

So to sum up my long winded post...IMO The Event is watchable and has the potential to be rather interesting. But the producers did not do themselves any favours with such an incoherent launching point. I don't know what the ratings are but I'm afraid this series might end up like Surface or Defying Gravity...where both series had improved writing after they had already lost viewers.

So anyone ready for the return?!

The preview looks amazing- can't wait for Leila to find out what she is.

And from what the trailer seems like, they were here first before us humans started dominating and now they're taking it back. Excellent storyline and one I've never seen played out on television before.

NBC has all ready cancelled The Cape, lets hope The Event stays strong!

The Event?

Any other big fans of "The Event" here?

I looked for a sub-forum on it but couldn't find one.

I wasn't sure about this show at first, but now I'm hopelessly hooked!

I agree. The pilot was kind of a mess, but it got better after that, I thought.

I think the plane disappearing thing would have been more effective if they hadn't actually SHOWN the plane vaporizing like that. That was kind of silly.

I think things like that are better when left up to the imagination, or even better, if they let us wonder what happened to the plane for a while.

SIGH - I guess LOST has spoiled me.

Aside from that, though, I find the show pretty compelling...and that Taylor Cole?? My goodness, I could watch her all day long and twice on Sunday.

I can't wait to see what happens now that their home-world is in trouble. Will Sophia and Thomas be able to co-exist?

The Event #2: The next Event is upon us.

WELCOME TO THE SECOND THREAD FOR THE NEW NBC SHOW:

What if there was a cover-up so big that even the President was on a need-to-know basis? And what if some average guy stumbled upon the truth - a secret so powerful it could literally change the course of humanity? You think that guy would stand a chance of survival?

From Nick Wauters (The 4400, Eureka) and Steve Stark (Medium) comes a suspense-filled journey where the answers only lead to bigger questions.
