I've watched all of it. Well all of it which still exists. A load of the first two doctors stories are gone forever. Major shame as my favourite doctor is Troughton. As for my DVDs they are of favourite stories + everything which exists from the second doctor.

All the tapes were wiped and used again. Film copies were made, but the BBC saw no future in keeping black and white stories, and began to destroy them to make space for other stuff. Most of what remains is stuff found kept in other countries. Occasionally things still do turn up though, so there's always hope of finding things. Australia edited many stories for violent scenes, and kept all the edited bits, and if edited stories turn up they can use those to restore whole episodes.

The BBC are actively looking for these things now though. So much was lost, not just Doctor Who.

Of course these days, a lot of stories are being reconstructed using black and white animations, and they are really quite good.
