Fortunately for me, I set my VCR last night so I know I caught the pilot (both halfs) this morning. Unfortunately for me, I have seen all the other episodes in the marathon and won't be getting the last few I've missed. Oh well, one step forward aaaand hold.

Caught the pilot, finally.

Watched a few of the other episodes as well. I felt so sorry for Mason in the clown episode, and the one in which he had to reap both the guy who fell in his kitchen and then, hours later, his partner who killed himself.

Liked the pilot. Missing the first half for so long meant I had missed a lot of background material.

Reaping his childhood punk hero sounds vaguely familiar but I'm not sure I've seen that episode - there are still a few later ones I've missed.

Yeah, it's a really sad episode, he actually comes out as a reaper to the guy, and tells him why he's there.

I hated Roxy. Shooting someone just because you don't like what they said? Somebody who does that shouldn't be allowed to carry a gun let alone be a police officer. Roxy's behavior was supposed to be funny but I didn't find it remotely so. Struck me as a negative portrayal of tough women.

Except Roxy wasn't half as bad as AL. But yeah there is a similarity. Both are negative portrayals of tough women and both are irresponsible about violence despite being cops/ex-cops. And both go in for this stupid swaggering, which is part of the negative portrayal of tough women thing, it's an old stereotype.
