Kyle XY Discussion #1:

I've seen the first two of the three aired episodes of this show so far, and my kids and I are really enjoying it. We especially enjoy the voiceover as Kyle narrates his first impressions of humans from some point in the future. (We cracked up at his initial take on photographs--"tiny flat people living in the wall". ) Other highlights:

**Some of this has a vaguely Roswell feel to it--Kyle waking up in a forest covered in goo and unable to speak, although Kyle is thought to be about 16 as opposed to the podsters being around 6.

**The lead portrays innocence and bafflement very well, and the grin on his face when he discovers something new about humans is infectious.

**He learned to talk by the end of the first episode; I was hoping they'd drag that out just a bit more.

**Nice to see SG1's Dr. Fraser as a snooty neighbor and X-Files' Nick Lea as a shadowy bad guy who knows something about Kyle.

**The lack of a belly button has led to a lot of alien speculation, but so far, it hasn't been determined what Kyle is.

I have the third episode on tape; hopefully I'll get to it soon. Something about Kyle learning how and why people lie.

Just want to let you know that there's already an active thread on the television board on this show.

Thank you and Thank you.

We'll keep this thread open just in case anyone wants to talk more about hte Sci Fi aspects of the show, as opposed to ships, etc.

I'm watching this show and so far I like it. It kind of reminds me of Starman. But I doubt he is an alien. I'm leaning more towards him being a clone/genetically engineered.

As a Canadian viewer I'm not sure I understand what this ABC Family is. Is it a specialty channel in the US? Why is Kyle XY being aired on both ABC and ABC Family?

So am I. Especially with Nick Lea's character shadowing him. And if he is a product of genetic engineering, was he let go deliberately? If he escaped accidentally, it seems he could have been scooped back up by now, what with all that night wandering and everything.

Not too sure about ABC/ABC Family, but in my area, ABC is a broadcast station and the Family Channel is only on cable. I think the show is airing on both, but it's airing on the cable version first.

It airs on ABC Family ... and re-airs on ABC.

As for the Sci-Fi aspect to the show ... I think it has to be some type of clone/future theory. There is a reason that guy is following/watching him ... I really would like to know why. His aptitude for math, art (recapturing digital imaging in his head), and strength ... what does it all mean?

Yes!!! There has to be something going on. I read somewhere somebody thinks it's this whole Adam/Eve for the new generation ... or something like that.

Yep. I was surprised that no one seemed to pick up on it, but then again, there are lots of missing persons reports out there.

-TheKen-: The Adam/Eve theory is a good one, especially since Kyle's shadower appears to be just watching (at least for the two episodes I've watched...haven't gotten to 3 and 4 yet). Like he's just gathering information.

That's true. It doesn't seem like he;s out to get Kyle, he's just observing him.

Just watched this ep. Haven't seen #4 yet, but I'm more convinced than ever that Kyle is some sort of genetically engineered human (or something), and that someone let him go. If he escaped accidentally, I don't see why he couldn't have been retrieved what with Nick Lea's character keeping such close watch. And now that we know someone died over all this, it appears there may be a difference of opinion over whether or not Kyle should be wandering around in the real world.

Loved the "Kyle-isms". ("Wish me luck." "How?" and "You jumped off the roof!" "I had to get down." ) And the daughter's insistence that men lie when she's obviously very practiced herself. Creepy that Kyle drew the key card symbol in several pieces in his drawings and doesn't remember it, but it looks like we get flashbacks in episode 4. I kept expecting a flashback when "Mom" was showing him the symbol, but it never came.

All caught up. I enjoyed this lastest episode much more than last week's teen angst fest.

So--video cameras all over the Trager's house. In the bathroom? The parent's bedroom? *shiver* Interesting that Tom covered his tracks well enough to circumvent Mr. Trager's (very healthy) suspicions. (With the security company, that is. He didn't cover his tracks well at the house, resulting in those very healthy suspicions.)

I loved watching Kyle triumph over that stuffed shirt educrat. I've dealt with types like that, so that was very satisfying. I also appreciated that Kyle didn't do the typical superhuman speed read where you flip through a book in seconds and know everything inside. He actually went page by page, pausing at least briefly. Photographic memory? And it looks like he starts to remember his past next week. Yay!

Surely Amanda must realize how Kyle feels about her. I mean those drawings of her is a big hint.

^ You'd think she'd have figured it out without her boyfriend having to point it out to her. Then again, Kyle does come across differently than the average teenage boy would. Just look at Declan. (Who turned out to have at least a thimbleful of decency. Who would have guessed? Certainly not me! )

Interesting blurb in the Wall Street Journal on Saturday:

"As the summer heads into its dog days and the networks struggle to find original fare, they're frequently turning to their corporate siblings on cable to fill their schedules. Earlier this month, ABC began re-airing eisodes of the ABC Family channel's Kyle XY, about a mysterious amnesiac teenager with no bellybutton. ~~~~~ The thinking, in part, is that broadcast channels can help boost the cable audience. Kyle XY consistently attracts more than four million viewers on ABC, compared with the two million the show averages on cable."

I hear they only ordered 10 episodes of this show, which means there are only 4 left. Darn. I hope they give us at least some answers before it disappears.

Blame It On The Rain: Kyle learns something new every week, and this week, it was how to lose his temper. This is the first time I've seen him angry. And maybe the first time I've seen Josh actually be contrite.

That bathtub is quite a conversation piece. I loved Amanda's references to wallowing and her hopping in the tub to chat with him. Maybe there's something about a bathtub that brings about emotional connections, even if there isn't any water.

Interesting seeing Tom's reaction when he came face to face with Kyle. I wonder who Tom is working with, whoever it is that he keeps calling. I could swear that dead guy is one of the science geeks from Stargate.

Kyle's being able to predict the weather will be handy; his ability to predict lightning may be even handier, especially when that lightning hits a stone planter on the ground. I would expect lightning to hit a tall tree or just about anything other than a flower pot at ground level.

Lori's offer to share her birthday with Kyle was sweet, as was the wish Kyle made over the birthday candles. Declan turns out to be a slick liar (no surprise there), but still has an ounce of decency. (Last episode it was a thimbleful of decency. Now he's up to an ounce. ) And Kyle's growing need to know where he comes from is going to prove troublesome for Tom, I think. Kyle is one person I wouldn't want to have mad at me.
