She wasn't. She was sympathetic and very funny and her vulnerability was very relatable. I'll never understand why some people pick on Dawn. Fans being mean about Dawn ended up bothering the actress, Michelle Trachtenberg, quite a bit and she was a kid at the time. Dawn was a major positive addition to the show at a time when the quality was dropping and such additions were much needed. Her friendship with Spike was one of the best things on the show. Dawn was the most relatable character on the show.

Thank you.

And just a word to you sum1: We can dislike whoever we want, it's our right. To us she was just plain annoying and not relatable at all.

I too, understand why she was brought in. And she had a right to be angry about things. But that doesn't mean that she was a good character.
The show just got worse with her and then the whole Spike/Buffy thing (you probably liked that too).
Maybe I would have liked her more if she was played by another actress who wouldn't have made her come across the way she did, I don't know.
But as it was I didn't like her at all, and I wasn't the only one.
Talking to us like we didn't understand her or why she was brought into the show to begin with is not going to change my opinion.
So stop defending her like she's some holy being we all have to like.

Dawn had her good points. Loved her fighting along side Buffy in Season Six finale but with the exception of a few episodes was wasted in Season 7.

You need to tone down the aggression, BoneLady.

The Buffy/Spike relationship was the best relationship on the show. And there were some bad ones (Buffy/Angel, Xander/Anya).

You can dislike her and I can defend her.

The actress did a spectacular job. Humor, vulnerability, humanity, liveliness.

I never did anything of the sort. When did I say you didn't understand why she was brought into the show? I never did.

She was an excellent cheracter because the actress brought out her vulnerability and humanity, made her funny, and interacted well with actors like SMG (Buffy) and James Marsters (Spike).

There was a dose of great Dawn stuff in earlier season 7, but she was shoved into the background after that, to the detriment of the show.

Dawn was my favorite after Buffy and Spike. I love Michelle. Dawn was a big part of why season 5 is my favorite season. I thought she brought a lot to the show

My favorites are Buffy, Dawn and Spike, in that order.

I love Spike and Buffy, but I thought Dawn was horrible. I'm sorry if the actress was hurt by fans comments, but I actually believe that the way she played the character might have made Dawn more annoying. I say this because I've seen her on other shows and I find those characters almost equally annoying. For me, Dawn centered episodes were almost unbearable to watch. That's just my opinion

On a non-Dawn related note- was just watching the thanksgiving episode with the Indian and still find this scene absolutely hilarious

I don't understand how anybody could find Dawn horrible or Michelle Trachtenberg annoying, but if that's your opinion that's your opinion.

Spike was great in that ep.

Not a Spuffy-fan at all. Rape is not love. Not a Buffy/Angel-fan to be fair as I think Buffy, of all female characters, really shouldn't be defined by who she's with, and that's what happened with Angel. Sometimes, a strong female character can stand on her own two feet and not be a part of a stupid love-triangle.

OTOH, I loved Dawn. She was exactly what the show needed at the time after perhaps going a little stale. Not her fault that S5 wasn't the best either (hello, Glory).

Spuffy is not rape. The attempted rape was something implausibly forced into the relationship in a ham-handed attempt to manipulate audience feelings.

What's everyone's favorite characters?

Mine are Buffy, Dawn and Spike. With Drusilla, Oz and Tara as runners up.
