I liked the New show as well too, but wish that they had done a couple things differently. I also wish that it had a 5th season, I had heard that it was planned but was cancelled at the last minute.

i agree with this, and i think the show took it to the next level, as in making the traditional male role reshaped as a female role, but not necessarily as a feminist ideal of equality in characters, but rather the egalitarian concept in that the debonair attitude and skilled badassery of Starbuck knows no gender, anyone could be that person given the right circumstances and motivations. BSG was great for strong female characters but not because they were female, but because they were the right people at the right time, in a harrowing time of pain and loss.

while certain issues of the feminist ideal found themes within episodes, i think the BSG writers were more of the egalitarian ideal, wherein gender has no play at all, men and women are equal players in the grand scheme of things. i loved that the Cylons had 12 models and 6 were women, 6 were men. talk about equality of society, if only they weren't a bunch of souless machines who wiped out 10 billion people in revenge for being created/mistreated as synthetic workers.

yes very much so, but i just wanted to add that i found the world of BSG to be much evolved in the area of gender equality thus the more egalitarian approach to roles and themes, as opposed to time of 1917 in Wonder Woman where oppression of women was very much the norm of the day, thus the much needed feminist ideals that are so beautifullly portrayed in that fabulous film and so much needed in our world today.

i shall be regularly posting in this thread, big BSG fan, just forgot to visit here since my arrival on ff. we need to keep the BSGdream alive!

For me the Mello Drama was not my reason for watching BSG. Fans like me that liked the OLD BSG and wanted to see it returned didn't much care about the Drama, but rather wanted to see the story/plot return. Now NEW BSG did have many more modern plots and etc, but we older Fans of the SciFi Old BSG were not as happy with the New BSG. Now do remember if it wasn't for the Fans of the Older show in keeping it alive, the New BSG might never have come about. Many of the older Fans were not happy with the New show. I for one could care less about whom played what and if a character was male of female, I wanted to see the plot. I wanted a SciFi show and could care less about the Mello Drama. Now BSG is a SciFi show, not Outlander. I love Outlander because of the plots within plots within plots and the Drama, but then Outlander isn't a SciFi show but a Historical Fantasy show.

Both shows are still good and I liked all of them just the same. Now I would have liked it if they had gone forward with the War BSG with young Adama years as a Fighter Pilot fighting the Cylons in the first war (BSG Blood and Crome). The Pilot was awesome and for me that was a SciFi plot focused show that was awesome, to bad it was dropped. Now the show Caprica I just didn't like that at all and felt it was all Drama once again. Oh well the show is gone, like SG1, SG Atlantis and SG Universe just the same.

an amazing thing occurred on BSG in the mini-series, that set the tone for characters in the whole four seasons. the President and Cabinet of the 12 Colonies, were all killed during the Cylon attack, and the line of secession fell to number 43, Laura Roslin, Secretary of Education for the administration. no one ever doubted her for the job of President of the Colonies survivors, because she was a woman, but rather because she was a schoolteacher/educator and might not have the leadership experience necessary for that office. that is an amazing ideal for a tv show, much less everyday in our society. bravo to the writers!

i don't consider the many ideas and themes of BSG to be 'melodrama'.

Ok I wanted Dog Fights, Combat, Hi-Tech SciFi and the like, not character Drama. Call it perspective or point of view. I guess to each their own.

Each to their own because I felt the character development made the show remarkable the things that were explored

Back when the NEW BSG Show was running, I belonged to a Forum then where we use to talk about all sorts of things BSG. We had a thread that was based on a idea of "If you were a commander of a surviving BSG Battle Group what would you do" with a select group of Colonial vessels like: (5 Colonial Battle Vessels)

- Battlestar Valkyrie (class):
- Colonial Defender (class):
- Berzerk -Escort (class):
- Daedelus - Gunstar (class) (2):

It was more of a group of threads where those that signed up for it they would each be asked questions, and depending on what we chose to do we would be given different options. It was run by a MOD there, and it's point was to see how or what we each would do differently from the show and each other.

For may case BG 144, Commander of the Battlestar Oracle. I was a Defender and collected civilians ships and resources to build up my BG. For me it is the people that matter and collecting as many of them with resources is the most important matter.

I tended to not engage the Cylons head on, and would rather save my people and assets. Eventually when I collected enough people and resources, I headed for deep space to look for a new home. To me that seemed to be the best answer.

It is sad that forum is gone, but there were a lot of great threads there that I know many here would greatly enjoy.

i loved the Galactica and Pegasus episodes, the conflict between them, and the ensuing battle where the Pegasus jumps into New Earth to help against the Cylon forces as the Colonials were getting off that planet. even though i never particularly cared for Commander Cain's politics and brutality, i liked her toughness of character and grit under fire, and she faced her killer straight up, no whining or excuses, and took her badassery to the grave. it took a strong personality and force of will, to persevere as the lone battlestar in a sea of cylons for two years following the destruction of the 12 Colonies.
