| Anyone know the one about.... Hi! I'm Don. (That should do for introduction for now, I hope....) Anyway, I'm wondering if there are people here who know old SF short stories, because I want to find a particular one. I would have read it in the late 60's or early 70's I think, but I suspect it is older than that. Anyway, it's from the POV of a boy who's stuck in this boarding school, run under the sort-of-literally iron hand of a robot headmistress. Trouble is, she's been blowing memory circuits, so she's got the idea that all the students are robots, and must be trained accordingly. For one thing, they are expected to move around precisely in response to orders sent by radio. They can't receive them, of course, but they all do their best to guess what they should be doing.... At one point, our hero is called into the Headmistress's office. Interview is going not too bad, then some more memory goes fizzst, and he is told "You will explain your presence in my office!" Finally some humans arrive to rescue the students. The students all march out and stand in a row, motionless and silent as they have been taught. "Look at them!" exclaims one of the rescuers. "They're a bunch of robots!" Our hero reports an incredible rush of pride on hearing this. Anyway, I'd like to be able to cite title and author for this story. Anyone perchance recognize it? | |||

| 'sok, got the answer elsewhere. "Hemeac" by EG Van Wald. BTW, it was made into a TV show in 1998: Welcome To Paradox: Hemeac episode on TV.com However, the plotline looks a fair bit differnet for the TV version. | |||
