Well, I think you all are into X-Files, right? hehehe ... because it was a great serie!

I saw that X-Files Mythology: Colonization came out on DVD, on Sept. 27th

The Mythology is Chris Carter’s visionary story arc of “The X-Files” comprised of 60 episodes from all nine seasons of the show.

In The X-Files Mythology: Colonization, Mulder’s search for the truth suddenly seems near its end when he and Scully meet Cassandra Spender. A multiple abductee, Cassandra

believes that aliens came to Earth on a mission that has somehow gone terribly wrong. Her theory is confirmed when Krycek reveals that three abduction sites were beacons for alien

colonization and the death and destruction at those sites were caused by a small alien rebel force. Determined to prevent the colonization of Earth, this force is also eliminating all proof

that an alien presence was ever on the planet. Unfortunately for Mulder, his quest for the truth has made him part of the proof which must be eliminated.

Does anyone remember anything about Colonization?? X-Files was so great!

I started watching it way back in 1993, when its first episode aired, as I do with all of the great shows. hehe I am the driver of the bandwagon that everyone inevitably jumps onto.

I have actually gone through my old tapes (I have yet to buy the dvds...too-many others to buy as well atm) and singled out all of the 'mythology' episodes and watched them chronologically, just as you say this dvd set does. But I did it years ago, a few times.

I loved the show when it first aired on TV, I've been thinking about buying it on DVD for quite some time now.

I've never seen this one (though of course I've heard a ton about it) and I found out tonight my mother, who is not a TV person at all...absolutely was obsessed with it. Now I may need to check it out!

The X-Files was my first big (non animated) tv show obsession. Besides the giant cell phones the characters carry around , I think it's just as enjoyable today as it was when it first aired, so I'd highly recommend it to everyone.

The X-Files was the perfect show at just the right time. It was the heir apparent to Kolchack: The Night Stalker, which was creator Chris Carter's inspiration for the show. It came at the dawn of internet fandom, 90's UFO and alien abduction/government conspiracy fever, a renaissance in television writing and production values, and the twilight of the Star Trek television franchise, when audiences were hungry for something different.

Also, The X-Files was responsible for creating the pop-culture trend known as 'shipping. In an issue of Entertainment Weekly that was entirely dedicated to the show and published in 1997, the articles mentioned a group of X-Files online fans who called themselves " relationshippers." These were fans who loved the show for Mulder and Scully's on-screen relationship and the amazing chemistry between leads David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as much as the terrifying sci-fi/horror themes as stories. Now this was nothing new in TV. Shows such as Moonlighting in the 80's gave audiences the David/Maddie phenomenon, as well as the soap opera General Hospital and their legendary Luke & Laura pairing. But there was never really a name for this particular type of fandom until the X-Files and the internet came along.

The "Relationshippers" lived and died for every single scene with Mulder and Scully, hanging on every look, every touch, ever double-entendre between the two characters. And of course, asking the age old question, "will they, or won't they get together"? And as is usual in the English vernacular, the term "Relationshippers" became abbreviated to "shippers" to describe the Mulder/Scully fanbase. Eventually, the word became used as a broad term to describe fans of pretty much any pairing in television, film, books, comics, etc. And of course, the abbreviation "shippers" was twisted into an active verb, and the act of promoting or fan-worshipping an established couple, or a couple that was not established but always a possibility, became known as "shipping." Thank you, X-Files!

Ah, so Mulder & Scully are to blame for shipper wars. Got it.

I still watch episodes every so often. It was an excellent show. I have some on DVD, some on tape and then of course there's always Netflix viewing.

I remember hearing about the Mythology release, it's an interesting way to still sell the show but shorten it down to what it was solely about. If I was a hardcore fan, it's something I'd buy, but the dvd's I have are enough.

This show truly had a huge impact on pop culture and fandom at large.

There was also the "big divide" within the XF fanbase based on whether you were a M/S shipper or not - long, heated debates with shippers VS. "noromos" (no-romance), those who didn't want Scully and Mulder to get romantically involved, instead, and thought ruining the platonic nature of their bond would kill the heart of their great dynamic.
I think there was also a group that identified as fans who only wanted them to hook up at the very end of the show, but I don't recall if they gave themselves a specific name.

I didn't know about the 'Mythology' DVDs, just had to google it!

Has anyone checked out 'Season 10', instead, the comic book series that launched last year?

Me neither, I was such a n00b back then, I didn't even know where to look for the "good" fandom stuff when I finally discovered it.

If I check the comics out, I'll post a bit about them and whether they are worth a read in my opinion.
I know they made something similar for Buffy, too, but never got around to look into those, either.

I did the same thing and I had totally planned to get the Buffy ones, loved that show.

And the shock to discover things that I never thought would exist, like the rivalry between Scully/Gillian fans and Mulder/David fans.

I don't even know if those comic book series did well or whether they are still ongoing or not.
