Corby's Case in Bali (update July 27th)

Corby's case
06:01 AEST Wed Jul 27 2005

This could be you? or your love one

Greeted by media frenzy at court

13:56 AEDT Tue Mar 29 2005

A tearful Schapelle Corby has arrived at a Bali court for what may be the crucial day in her fight to avoid a sible death sentence drug smuggling.

"Please help me, please help me," she told a crush of journalists as police helped her push through the surging crowd outside the Denpasar District Court.

She was led from a caged police bus, aided by her sister Mercedes Corby, and was placed in the same holding cell as her key defence witness Victorian remand prisoner John Ford.

Ford is expected to tell the court that he overheard a conversation among other prisoners in jail that Corby - a former Gold Coast beauty student - was the victim of an Australian drug smuggling operation gone wrong.

A small band of supporters carrying placards were at the court to greet an obviously emotional Corby, who was dressed in a white shirt and a black skirt.

Ford is crucial to the 27-year-old's defence against charges that she smuggled 4.1kg of marijuana into Bali's Denpasar airport last October.

She do not do it, I mean come on she only wanted to go on a holiday for 2 weeks

The drugs, aren't meant to go oversea which is why now Ford is putting his life in danger to help Corby

She better come home ALIVE

I don't believe for one second that she smuggled those drugs, this really isn't fair, this shouldn't be happening. My mum keeps worrying about it, saying that she wishes she could do somthing, but there isn't anything we can do to help. They had better not give her the death sentence. There has to be some way that our government can help this.

With people transporting drugs through innocent peoples luggage I don't know if I'd be wanting to go anywhere at the moment. It's a scary thought that this could happen to any of us.

This is a perfect example of why you need to be so careful with your bags. A simply lock would have prevented all this.

When I travel I'm paranoid about my bags. Every concievable zipper is locked, and my carry on is always in sight.

I'm always cynical about court cases but I really believe she was framed.

However, the issue that irritates me is the fact that the government has done nothing. I understand that they can't 'interfere' with every single criminal case that an Australian is involved in oversea but when the basis of this case is associated with Australian customs, they should have. The Federal Govt has done nothing whatsoever when there were obvious things they could have such as checking security footage.

I think it's sickening that when you go overseas, you aren't looked after. I found it quite convienent that the millionaire bloke who was held to do with weapons charges was helped and is on his way.

However, if I may be superficial for a moment, I wish they would stop describing her as a 'beauty student' - come up with a better name. The other shallow note is her name Schapelle, reminds me of a brand of pen. Told you I was superficial!

One thing I hadn't thought of, they are so leninant to the Bali bombers who killed people, yet they're potentially going to kill someone who brought drugs into the country, with HUGE doubts about her innocence. I hope if the judge does find her guilty, the Auustralian govt. fights for her extradition.

My mum and I were talking about the Bali bombers and how lightly they got off, especially the guy {I forget his name} who organized the whole thing and only got a year {10 months} or somthing. My mum and I both think that they're going to find her guilty, mum keeps saying that they've got it in for her.

I heard that the judges found the Australian prisoners evidence highly suspicous {sp?}. If they do give her the death penalty the Australian government better do everything they possibly can to stop it and bring her home.

I have to use {} because my numbers at the top of my keyboard are all broken so I can't use the normal brackets.

Unfortunately, this is a big problem when naive americans travel overseas. This last summer I went to Belize, Mexico, and Honduras. Locks were on everything. And my carry around bag was glued to my side at all times.

This sounds like Brokedown Palace. I agree that it's crazy that they would put her to death for drugs, which I don't believe she was involved with at all, but in a country that has such a massive drug problem I can understand overreaction by the gorvenment. Not accept it, but understand it. Anyway, I truly hope that she gets off, she doesn't deserve it.

I have that movie

Bali bombers gets off for killing people, people who do drugs get the death changed the damn law.

People like Corby who didn't do it, shouldn't be going to death
I saw A.C.C. on channel 9 not long ago and some man got interviewed about the same thing and he got off.
Let's hope Corby gets off too. If I was her I sure wasn't visit Bali again, no way!!

Its simple. She's given the death penalty, we pull the $1 billion in aid. Don't like it, send her here for us to do her penalty.
