World War III?

Do you think there will be a World War III? With all the problems in Iraq and Seria and Saudia Arabia and North Korea, I think it could happen.

I made the same thread months ago but it got no replies.

Anyway, I'm pretty scared that WWIII may just be around the corner.

I do think that sometime in the future a large war will occur, especially as more and more resources become scarce. I don't know if it will be in my lifetime; I hope not.

Well, I hope not, too.

But I think there will be one. With all the rage and anger in some countries, that has to explode somewhen.

Same here. It's a scary idea.

It's bound to happen. I think we are creeping towards it everyday but I have no idea when or how it will occur.

I always think it's interesting to talk about this because when you go back and really take a close look at the events that have lead up to other major wars you can find so many parallels to today but at the same time enough is different that maybe it's farther off than we think.

I don't think there will be a World War III, but if there is, I have a feeling the fault will lay on North Korea. Their leader wants only his way or its the highway, hopefully their leadership will change. I was afraid of a war after they tested wepaons a year ago or so, they wouldn't cooperate with any foreign countries including U.S.

Duh, world war 3 happened ages ago, it was called the cold war. We're right in the middle of world war 4 right now.

I don't really think the Cold War would qualify. That was pretty much Russia v. the United States and other countries involved to a much lesser extent. Not only that, but it was a pretty bloodless "war."

North Korea... I don't really think of as a threat. Maybe it's just because I've studied Korean history, but it's a pretty clear case of a small country surrounded by bigger and more powerful countries that have a history of oppressing the Koreas for thousands of years.... trying to assert itself. Little man syndrome and all of that. I've always felt like the nuclear weapons are more for show than harm, like the leadership there feels that by having the weapons, they improve their status- and their defense.

Actually, most historians consider the Cold War to be a World War. In addition to the two most people talk about, historians cound the Napoleonic Wars and several others as "world wars"...the Cold War, included.

But it was called the "Cold War" because there wasn't a lot of bloodshed. There were smaller wars/battles raging on during the Cold War which added to it. I can see it being classified as a world war.

Well, there was bloodshed, just not directly between the superpowers (because of crazy nuclear deterrence - although it certainly almost went over the egde a few times). The Vietnam War, for example, can be seen as a proxy war between the US and the USSR. Many people also died in Latin America as a result of the Cold War ideology/tunnel vision.
