Women set on fire by her husband

Heres an article from the Oprah site I found. I watched Cade on Oprah and it was such a sad, sick story.

Opening statements are set for Tuesday in the trial of a man accused of dousing his wife with gasoline and setting her on fire.

Roger Hargrave, of Temple Hills, Md., allegedly threw a flammable liquid on Yvette Cade while she was working at a T-Mobile store in Clinton, Md.

Authorities said Hargrave walked into the store in the 8900 block of Woodyard Road at about 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 10, 2005, carrying a 20-ounce Sprite bottle that contained gasoline. Police said he began to douse his estranged wife with gasoline, and when she fled through the back of the store, he followed, continuing to pour gasoline on her.

Outside the store, Hargrave allegedly set Cade on fire.

Police said the woman then ran back into the store where a customer used a towel to extinguish the flames.

Hargrave is accused of attempted murder.

The case was controversial because the incident occurred just three weeks after a Prince George's County judge dismissed a protective order Cade had obtained against her husband. The order was lifted over Cade's objections. She claimed that Hargrave had repeatedly violated it.

Prince George's County State's Attorney Glenn Ivey is personally handling the case, and the county's chief judge is presiding. Ivey's office believes it has strong evidence against Hargrave, including a videotape of the attack.

Jury selection lasted about eight hours and Cade is expected to be a star witness in the case, News4 reported Monday.

Cade has undergone more than a dozen surgeries as a result of her injuries. She is continuing her recovery.

Cade's supporters plan to attend the trial. They said they're hoping for more than a conviction. They want elected officials to be more sympathetic toward carrying out protective orders.

Hargrave has pleaded not guilty. If convicted, he could face life in prison.

Despite her injuries, she remains upbeat, but warns others in abusive relationships to get help and get out.

Here's a video on a interview with her on Oprah. It shows a small footage of her on fire.

Uggh crimes like this really make you hate the human race.

I read the story and good news he was found guilty on all counts.I can't believe this guy thought he can get away it when there is so much evidence against him. You got the customer who put out the flames, the fact that 3 weeks prior the restraining order was lifted, and not to mention he had violated it while it was still in effect, and last but not least they had the strongest source of evidence VIDEOTAPE that alone proves his guilt. If he pled guilty I am guessing he probably would of got 10 to 15 years. Also the real idiot is that judge who lifted to order in the first place.

Jen- I totally agree, when I read that he pleaded not guilty I was like "Oh hell no, his ass better go to prison". That is something that nobody should get away with.

I saw this on Oprah. I can't believe the way the judge acted with the voilence order. He was so rude in that tape they played, Oprah said he had been demoted and is no longer a judge, but I think he should have been fired over it.
