Woman Pleads Guilty To Killing Girl Found Strangled In Field

(2/18/05 - Marion, AK) — An Arkansas woman has pleaded guilty to murder in the strangulation death of a seven-year-old girl.

Jo Ann Buchanan was then sentenced to life in prison.

The plea followed a deal with prosecutors to reduce a capital murder charge to first-degree murder, sparing Buchanan possible execution.

Patricia Ann Miles was last seen August 15th, first riding her pink bicycle to Buchanan's house in the eastern Arkansas town of Gilmore and then with Buchanan in the woman's red van. Patricia's body was found four days later in the field near where police found the bicycle, and not far from where the van had been parked the day of the murder.

Investigators never determined a motive for the crime. They believe that Buchanan, who occasionally baby-sat Patricia, didn't get along with the girl's relatives.

Such a waste, this young girl had the rest of her life in front of her and this woman has not only taken the life of this innocent young girl but also her relatives and people around her. These stories seem to be getting worse and worse and it makes me so mad to read

The poor kid. She would never be able to grow up. Poor kids who end up suffering physically abused by murderers, parents, and just dumb a**holes who kill for no reason.
