Woman May Have To Move Out of Town After Cookie Incident

http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,...696774,00.html

Dad of teen in cookie suit gets order against neighbor

Durango - The father of a Durango-area teenager sued in a case involving cookies left on a neighbor's porch has gone to court to stop the woman's husband from calling him.

Richard Ostergaard got a temporary restraining order against Wanita Young's husband, Herb Young, in county court, claiming he continues to make harassing telephone calls to the Ostergaard residence.

On July 31, Taylor Ostergaard and Lindsey Zellitti decided to skip a dance and, instead, bake cookies for neighbors. They knocked on doors, dropped off the cookies along with heart-shaped wishes that recipients "have a great night," then ran away.

Wanita Young said that when the pair knocked on her door about 10:30 p.m., it frightened her into an anxiety attack. A Durango judge Thursday awarded about $900 to the 49-year-old woman to cover some medical bills incurred when she ended up at the emergency room the next day.

Wanita Young said, "This has turned into quite a fiasco. It's something that never should have happened, and it's just devastating. My phone hasn't stopped ringing. My life has been threatened, and I'll probably have to move out of town."

The families say the girls' court costs are covered, but people who still want to donate can designate that the money be used for the girls' college funds or for the "Never Forgotten" scholarship fund for Columbine students. The families set up this address for mail and donations: Taylor Ostergaard and Lindsey Zellitti, P.O. Box 2528, Durango, CO 81301.

This is probably the stupidest thing I ever heard of.

Those girls were being nice baking cookies for neighbors and that woman wants to sue them and almost had a heart attack. Yeah she probably is being harrassed now for being such a baby. You know if you can't handle your doorbell being rang after 10 then you need to be in an old folks home. Big frickin' deal. All you have to do is look through the peep hole.

This case seems to have gone a little too far, however, if i was at home by myself and someone rang my doorbell late at night, and when i opened the door no one was there, i would be very freaked out, if someone is easily prone to anxiety attacks, something like that could trigger one.

If wasnt the brightest idea to go around late at night in the first place, nice to make cookies for the neighbours, but yeah, why not just hand them out in the morning...

and the death threats ? the whole neighbourhood needs to build a bridge and get over it IMO

I think the one should've just stopped any sort of lawsuits when she learned the girls intentions. They weren't some prank kids running around trying to annoy people late at night, they skipped some dance so that they could bake cookies for their neighbors. There wasn't anything evil behind their idea.

The girls also wrote the woman an apology and she said it was fake. The parents offered to pay any of the womans medical bills if she'd agree to not have any charges put against their kids, she wouldn't agree to that and took them to court.

Yeah she really took it too far. I can understand being worried when someone rings your doorbell late at night, but they offered an apology and to pay the bills! What more does she want? She just sounds like a mean-spirited person. I'm sure nobody would have bothered her if she had just accepted what the family offered, which is this came seemed perfectly reasonable. She chose to bring this to court and it never should have gotten that far. As far as death threats, that's ridiculous. And so are threatening phone calls. Everyone needs to just get over this.

Why in the world did they set up a fund for this girl? She baked some cookies for crying out loud, it's not like she's a hero!

The only thing I can think of is that they might've had to take some money that they were going to use to send them to college to pay the lawsuit. If its not that then they really shouldn't be asking for donations to their children, the Columbine thing is fine though I think.

Yeah I think that is fine. It just seems strange though, because I thought it was only for $900 or something, which doesn't seem like much considering they offered to pay her medical bills. I would have loved if this was on Judge Judy! I wonder what she would say...

It never said whether she opened the door or not... and I'm thinking she didn't.. cause it said when the "knock" came she almost had a heart attack.

Also she has a very overprotective hubby that keeps calling the family of the young girls...

She's a bitch.

Like I said - old folks home.

My grandma used to stay out with his sister's till like 10 and we used to come up at all hours living right next door -

A normal reaction to this would have been "Oh hubby go check the door.. that's strange to have a knock this late". "Why look Fern, someone baked us cookies. It was those neighbor girls." "Oh how sweet. I'll have to thank the little dears".

Or if she was home alone she could have ignored the door and went to BED. It's not like they kept knocking and knocking...

GET OVER IT HAG.

That ladies nuts. I understand if she was freaked out that someone was at the door that late at night but the fact that the family went out of their way to apologize and offer to pay for her medical bills and then she still took them to court is obsurd.

If this was on Judge Judy I can imagine when they walk through the doors the announcer saying "Lady is charging girls with baking cookie!"
