What's more important?

This is something that really annoyed me about the news yesterday (Saturday). There was a football cup final on and while I was in the car

I was listening to the radio and the first thing they talked about on the news was the football. The other three stories were about a bomb in Iraw which killed 5 people, the policeman who was killed and a child who got run over.

The people who wrote that news bulletin obviously felt that a few men kicking a ball around a field was more important than the seven people who had died.

They also kept interrupting the music to talk to fans of the two teams which I found so annoying because if I wanted to listen to stuff about football, I would have been listening to a sport station, not a music one.

Am I the only person who thinks that the people arranging the news have their priorities completely wrong?

I don't think it's a priority issue, but more of a comfort issue. Let someone hear something good before they hear about the bad things. It makes it easier to handle.

I think it's more a money thing. If they have both sports and music on one channel they get the draw from two sets of fans. But I totally feel you there.

Well I am sure you are not the only one.

But I don't mind football cup getting more pub from Iraq. I mean why does news always have to be bad? we get bad news all the time, its nice to have some good news/local good news.

breaking non sports news is waaaay more important to me. however most radios base what they do on profits so i must be in the minority.

I think it would be rather difficult to go from "Carnage in Iraq! to "And now the football scores...", so it's easier to do it the other way around.

This is the same the way 1/2 hour commercial news. They will be showing death and destruction etc for the whole time and in the last minute, we will hear a lovely little story about how the fire people were able to get the kitty cat that was stuck in the drain pipe
