What's with celebrities giving their kids obsurd names?

Are their brains fried with all of the booze and drugs they take? Apple, Moses who in their right mind names their kid names like that unless their is something wrong with them. At least Tom Cruise chose a halfway normal name.

There's nothing wrong with the name Moses; it's a beautiful name...but all in all, the celebs can have odd choices

The only really out there celebrity, well...quasi celebrity anyway, name I've heard of was the name Jermiane Jackson gave his son, Jermajesty., where the hell did he get that from?

As for Apple, Moses, Zaharra(which I actually find really pretty), and whatever else...I don't think they're that weird, I once knew a girl named Apple Cinnamon.

, for whatever that's worth.

My personal favorites are Pilot Inspektor (Jason Lee's son) and Moxie Crimefighter (Penn Jillette). Or how about the Geldof kids: Fifi Trixibelle, Peaches Honeyblossom, Little Pixie, Tiger Lily Heavenly something.

Apple and Moses seem relatively harmless in comparison. I remember when the name 'River' was viewed as strange. Now you have kids going by the name Banjo (Six Feet Under actress' son).

Yeah, it's kind of weird, but then the names I like aren't always what one would call 'traditional.' BTW- I also think Zaharra is a really pretty name...

I read in my friend's live journal that Tom and Kate's daughter's name (Suri) actually means "Get out of here" in Hebrew. Oh well, this is the entry:

Quote:
So I was bored this afternoon and started reading news articles online (that right there tells you how bored I was). Anyway, I came across this article on CNN that really had me laughing. Everyone unfortunately knows about the birth of TomKat's baby Suri last Tuesday. Apparently the translation of the name released by their publicist was not entirely correct. They claimed that it means Princess in Hebrew- but actually that's the meaning of Sarah. According to citizens of Israel, Suri means get out of here. So basically, Katie named her baby Get out of here Cruise. A not so subtle hint for Tom to hit the road? One can only hope.

And yes before anyone starts defending them (would any of you actually do that?), the creepy couple insists the name is a root of Sarah.....blah blah blah. Yes, if you go trolling long enough you can find a meaning for your name, regardless of it's accuracy.
I thought of this just now. If you want bizzare names, watch the Maury show when they're doing those paternity tests.

Most celebs are pretty normal people except for the fact they have a high visibility job and get paid a lot more than most people.

The whole drugs and alchol scene is pretty much reserved for those who already have addictive personalities, I.E. Robert Downey Jr. and would be addicts regardless if they were in the entertainment biz or not, or the younger stars who just haven't grown up/matured yet and still think it is "cool" to get stoned and plastered whenever they go out.

And when you pronounce Suri in french, it means "mouse". And it means pickpocket in japanese. Poor kid.

Actually, I think the ultimate "strange names that celebrities name their children" belong to the now adult children of the late Frank Zappa -- Moon Unit, Dweezil, Ahmet Emuukha Rodan, and Diva Muffin. Try growing up normal with THOSE monikers! Although apparently they did -- relatively speaking.

Strangely, Moon Unit is the only Zappa name I find...strange. Ok, Diva may be a bit over the top.

I don't know how many people know who she is, but Shannon Sossamon named her kid Audio Science.

I think naming your kid Prince Michael I and Prince Michael II (with the nick name blanket) is pretty strange. Shows what Michael Jackson thinks of himself.

I'm all for strange names. There are too many Chris' or Jennifers or Michaels out there. We need more Fudge Brown's and Fantastic Wonderful Monds in the world.

I'm just waiting for someone with a large number of children to call the last one "Quits".
