For one thing, where did you get the information about this thing? It's the first time I've heard of it.

I've come across some information about this randomly surfing the web.

Apparently the Amero does exist, but it is a collectors coin that is available at the amercocurrency website. "Buy Ameros for educational purposes, as novelties and conversation starters." The site says that the coin is "being sold to raise awareness of the NAFTA trade agreements between Canada, United States and Mexico".

Apparently, the marketing of this coin has changed into a conspiracy theory.

I can see the amero going over really well in the US if it became real. [/sarcasm]

It won't work. The economies of Canada and the US could use a combined currency because they're very similar economically, but Mexico, yeah right. Not going to happen.

no, I take it that would bring all the problems that were anticipated when planning the euro for the EU, and more

I think the OP might be talking about their being a world currency. I think this would be a terrible idea. I think tourism and real estate would take a hit, for sure.

Actually, the Canadian and American economy might have a lot in common, but there's always enough of a gap between the values of our respective dollar that I would be very curious as to how that would fly.

I'd be the Euro all over again, except this time there would be less countries to even things out.

Yeah, but it's a significantly smaller gap than the gap between the American and Canadian dollars and the Mexican Peso.

And I wonder what the value of this money would be. Money doesn't go as far as it used to be with everything going up in price.

I don't think we'll ever have to figure that one out.

I live within the Eurozone and I am happy with it.

I do little trips across the border far more often.
And I like that every country has its own coins and you can see how far your money has traveled.

Hollidays, working, and studiying abroad has become way easier.

But most importantly there are economic advantages. Without the Euro Germany wouldn`t be the world biggest exporter and that helps to keep production and jobs here.

If it weren`t for the € Ireland wouldn`t have become the Celtic Tiger and Eastern European Countries wouldn`t have gotten cheap credits.

there is also a huge gap between Luxemburg and Romania.
Still the Euro is more stable right now as the Sterling or the US-Dollar.

Of course there are disadvantages. You are as a country limited in your monetary politics, strategical deevaluating of money like the US, GB and China have done it in the last couple of years wouldn`t be possible.

However I do believe that the ECB will decide todevaluate the Euro in the near future since it is overvalute right now
