Oh, I think our economy is in dire, dire trouble. And I do think it will collapse if McCain is voted in. It may anyway, I don't know, but I have no doubt that it will if he's voted in.

Oh I think it's in trouble but I've also read that this plan was in the works for a few months.

I'd like to know why 700 billion is the magic figure and how they came to that and that the CEO's who have been running their companies at a loss aren't going to walk away with millions.

If my tax dollars are going to clean up this mess then we need more answers - what's happening now isn't cutting it.

Well Bush is on in about an hour so I'm sure he'll clear it up.

It just seems like McCain is trying to say it was his idea when Obama suggested it first. And since Obama wants to do the debate, the McCain camp will spin it and say he is not putting country first.

I agree something has to be done but i'm not sure the sky is falling just yet.

This is a stunt on McCain's part.
of course mccain is a part of the problem and im more than certain that this is just a poll ploy, but he is taking responsibility and showing leadership... where as obama is not... both candidates should be involved in this process because they are the ones who are going to oversee it when president... it should be the only thing that matters to both of them right now imo

This was Obama's idea, to go to Washington together and release a joint statement. McCain agreed and then released a solo statement. McCain isn't taking responsibility and showing leadership. McCain just pulled the rug underneath Obama. It's a morally bankrupt political stunt to try and get Palin out of the VP debates while attempting to look progressive.

Exactly. They need to actually HAVE the debates so we can hear what they plan to do.

Really? Obama laid out a position of seven points earlier this week about how the bailout should be reached. Have you seen his press conferences? It's in Congress right now and he has been in touch with Paulson, Bernacke (sp?) and Congressional leaders. I'm sure McCain has to. Bush for better or worse is still the President not Obama or McCain.

What has McCain done other than this stunt? Fire Paulson, create a commission? What? He went and visited that woman who called Americans red necks this morning. That's his idea of leadership and suspending his campaign?

Change the Friday debate to the economy and have it in Washington DC.

one of them will be in less than four months, so you'd think their input would be valued now... at least i think so

i dont even want to vote... they are all a part of the problem... they are all corrupt on some level or another... i just think it was a wise decision to put this issue ahead of a campaign

now excuse me while i go liquor myself up for bush

He didn't put the issue in front of the campaign. As of yesterday, McCain was talking about not even having read the bill. He made this issue ENTIRELY about the campaign. He used it, and took credit for an idea of Obama's, in a desperate attempt to delay debates neither he nor Palin are ready for.

OMG, lol. John McCain cancels on Dave Letterman, saying he can't make the interview because he's too busy on his way to the airport in order to race back to Washington...and then halfway through Dave's interview with Keith O., they cut into a LIVE feed of McCain with Katie Couric...IN THE SAME STUDIO.

YouTube - David Letterman Reacts to John McCain Suspending Campaign

McCain's desperate fear about not knowing what he's doing is so obvious at this point.

honestly I don't think the president can change the policy but he can put in a good a treasurer (not paulson types) who understand that trickledown/reaganite economics is a failure. This is how we got here. The fact that greenspan refused to limit subprime mortgages speak volumes in my opinon. Americans have bought this idea that regulation is evil lock stock and barrel and thats why we are in such dire straights. This has been building not for years but for decades. I mean even Bush's father referred to trickledown economics as VooDoo Economics.

OMG is right! I can't wait to hear McCain try to explain this one!

I didn't think it was possible (and neither did my parents) that anyone could be worse than Bush but it is!
