I do not like their politics. In fact, I'm downright appalled at the way McCain has run his campaign, and his politics and his choice of Palin as VP (who has no experience and is not REMOTELY ready to step into the office of President). This is a man who has repeatedly voted against equal pay for women, who has vowed to overturn Roe v. Wade. He's overzealous about military action, calling Obama unpatriotic for his stance in Iraq and indicating he doesn't care if we're in Iraq for the next 100 years. His economic plan is basically nonexistant, because he thinks "the fundamentals of our economy are strong". His health care plan is a disaster. He's a 72 year old man who's suffered from skin cancer in the past and yet he picked someone utterly unqualified to be his running mate. I can't think of one reason the idea of McCain being President DOESN'T scare me.

Now McCain is against deregulation (as in the financial industry) which is something he's believed in for his entire political career. His health care plan is based on the free market system and it was a horrible plan before this economic crisis - now it's just absurd. McCain can't run against the system when he's been such an integral part of it for the last 25 years or so. He's moaning about Obama taking campaign contributions from Freddie Mac etc. when his staff is overloaded with lobbyists who worked for some of the very companies the US tax payers are bailing out now.

His selection of Palin is a joke. There were other Republican women who were more qualified to be VP than her. McCain picked her for purely political reasons and not based on her qualifications. With the lies she's been telling her nose should be growing longer every day. Palin is stonewalling the trooper investigation in Alaska and it reflects poorly on her judgment. She's not a lock to win this thing and she may have to return to Alaska to govern. From what I've read the people of Alaska are none to happy to have been inundated with McCain campaign people representing her when she ran on running a transparent, ethical and reform minded administration.

Anyone up for a spot of optimism? Apparently, McCain has lost his lead with white women (he never had the lead with women overall, that was always Obama's, but he used to lead in white women demographics)- since picking Palin as his running mate.

VP Debate Rules Changed for Palin
The Obama and McCain campaigns have agreed to an unusual free-flowing format for the three televised presidential debates, which begin on Friday, but the McCain camp fought for and won a much more structured approach for the questioning at the vice-presidential debate, advisers to both campaigns said Saturday.

At the insistence of the McCain campaign, the Oct. 2 debate between the Republican nominee for vice president, Gov. Sarah Palin, and her Democratic rival, Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., will have shorter question-and-answer segments than those for the presidential nominees, the advisers said. There will also be much less opportunity for free-wheeling, direct exchanges between the running mates.

McCain advisers said they had been concerned that a loose format could leave Ms. Palin, a relatively inexperienced debater, at a disadvantage and largely on the defensive.

The wrangling was chiefly between the McCain-Palin camp and the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates, which is sponsoring the forums.

Commission members wanted a relaxed format that included time for unpredictable questioning and challenges between the vice-presidential candidates. Last week, it rejected a proposal from advisers to Ms. Palin and Senator John McCain of Arizona, the Republican presidential nominee, for few if any unfettered exchanges. Advisers to Mr. Biden say they were comfortable with either format.

Wtf is this? If she can't debate Joe Biden properly, how is she going to handle these other world leaders who won't care if she is a woman?

What?! This is complete bull. I'm sorry this is going way too far now! Just who does she think she is?! I would have told her that's just too damn bad! Why would Obama and Biden agree to this? This woman is ridiculous.

On the surface I don't know why Obama & Biden agreed to this either. There was also some concern aboud Biden making some gaffes too - but so what? Palin can do well with this on one hand because it allows her to say one-liners that will resonate with her base. They'll all be untrue of course but it will take a few weeks for the media to get it and everyone will have forgotten about whether it was truthful or not by then.

On the other hand - it's pathetic because she can't compete on the the same level as the "big boys." She needs to be in her comfort zone in order to compete.

I love how the rules have to be changed because she doesn't have the necessary experience. God forbid the Republicans are elected and John McCain dies in office... will the rules and responsibilities of the presidency be changed because she has no experience?

NEW YORK - Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, who has not held a press conference in nearly four weeks of campaigning, initially barred reporters from her first meetings with world leaders Tuesday, but reversed course after they protested.

At first, campaign aides told the TV producer, print and news agency reporters in the press pool that followed the Alaska governor that they would not be admitted along with still photographers and a video camera crew taken in to photograph her meetings with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, who are here for the United Nations General Assembly this week. She also was to meet later with former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.

These sessions and meetings scheduled for Wednesday are part of the Republican campaign's effort to give Palin experience in foreign affairs. She has never met a foreign head of state and first traveled outside North America just last year.

At least two news organizations, including The Associated Press, objected to the exclusion of reporters and were told that the decision was not subject to discussion. Presidents and members of Congress routinely allow reporters to attend photo opportunities along with photographers and the reporters sometimes are able to ask questions during the brief photo sessions, usually held at the beginning of private meetings.

CNN, which was providing the television coverage for news organizations, decided to pull its TV crew from the first meeting, with Karzai, effectively denying Palin the high visibility she had sought. But after the campaign agreed to let CNN's producer in as well, the CNN camera crew joined the session.

According to the CNN producer who was let into Karzai's hotel suite with the photographers just before noon, Karzai was talking about his son. Palin was nodding, and asked what his name is. Karzai replied his name was Mirwais and explained that it means light of the house.

The media were escorted out after about 40 seconds.

Campaign aides subsequently announced that reporters would be allowed to accompany photographers into the later sessions with Uribe and Kissinger.

At that point, campaign spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt said it was all just a "miscommunication." Earlier, she had said, "The decision was made for this to be a photo spray with still cameras and video cameras only."

Palin has been criticized for avoiding taking questions from reporters or submitting to one-on-one interviews. She has had just two major interviews since Republican presidential candidate John McCain chose her as his running mate on Aug. 29.

On Wednesday, McCain and Palin were expected to meet jointly with Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili and Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko. Palin was then to meet separately with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

This is so crazy. She's taking women back instead of forward. If the McCain campaign doesn't feel that she can handle the "big, bad liberal press" than how can she handle a real international crisis? Enough with the lipstick on a pitbull b.s. - this whole protecting Palin is just surreal.

This all reminds me of when Chelsea wouldn't take questions from the media during the campaign. The only difference is Chelsea wasn't running for an office in the White House! Perhaps they should see if Bristol is willing to answer any questions?

This is such bs. She is such a backwards step for woman. She says she is ready, but she can't handle questions from the press?

I have a great mental image of her sitting in bed at night with a copy of International Relations for Dummies open on her lap.
There are quite a few other people I think need to read that book as well, but alas, it hasn't been made yet and they probably never will.
