The man's in his 80s. I know he's a power-hungry demagogue. But people have got to realize that reacting to his presence at some conference is irrelevent. The problem is, however much it sucks to be in Zimbabwe right now (and, from what I can tell, unless you're in the elite, it sucks a lot) and no matter how useful Mugabe may pretend he wants to be in terms of solving Africa's problem (and Mugabe acting out of anything but paranoid self-interest would be a first), he's going to die sooner rather than later. And then it'll be bedlam. Because he's killed and jailed and ex-patriated anyone and anything who could gather enough know-how and enough organizational skill and power to potentially threaten his hegemony. So there's no one to take charge of the colossal domestic mess he'll leave behind. And it's a ginormous mess. __________________ Sunny "The work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die." avie by Jessie | |||
