The last post on the last thread was from Jacob:

Quote:
If I had 10 billion dollars, I'd give Ron Paul half of it for his campaign but he wouldn't take it because on his website, you are only allowed to donate 200 dollars a day. If I had a million dollars, I'd give at least 25K to his campaign.

We need a candidate that is going to talk about the real issues. We don't need someone that's gonna have a town hall meeting about abortion or why gay people are bad and can't get married. We need someone that actually has a solution and ideas on how to get this economy better again.
I just laugh at these big government corporation whores we have as politicians.

America needs to wake up and make the libertarian party a legitimate 3rd party and make it where it can compete with the Democratic and Republican parties. Republicans and Democrats shouldn't be the only choices.
Well, I'm glad to hear Ron Paul respects the law with regards to soft-money contributions.

You need a candidate who's not so partisan that he can work for the whole country and not just the people who elected him.

And of course your elected officials are into big government. Do you know of a single person out there who gets a job and starts talking about you need to cut the number of jobs? Whatever politicians say to get elected, they're in the business of big government. And, if they wouldn't be that way naturally, their corporate sponsors would make sure they would at least act that way.

TFTNT. Appeantly, Rick Perry is continuing his doomed bid. Still think it'll whittle down to three or four soon enough mind.

SC is Rick Perry's last chance for any kind of comeback, I think- I've lived there. Asking them to choose between a Mormon and a Catholic (Santorum) may not go well, lol. He religious "dialogue" there is...special.

I didn't realize Santorum is Catholic... this could be very interesting.

Back in 2004, George W Bush's campaign successfully painted John Kerry as a religious waffler, when he's been attending the same Catholic services for decades and decades. Compared to Mr Bush, who has changed Protestant denominations three times (that I know of) during his life.

It could be that times have changed, but it'll be interesting to see the Republican party divided between a Mormon or a Catholic. They'll probably try to look for another alternative, but Rick Perry's too insane to have decent numbers among rational Republicans and Newt Gingrinch has too many religious "crimes" in his pass to pass hismelf as a good Protestant.

So I wonder how that will turn out.

Oh, Newt's Catholic now too. He used to be Southern Baptist until his third wife. Which is LOL worthy in and of itself.

Why does there have to be a discussion on candidates' religions?

Religion does impact on politics.

I don't see it. I think people use it as an excuse to bash religion.

Religion impacts on how people view divorce, adoption, abortion... Lots of different issues.

Why do you judge people like that? That's what I don't get. It's hypocritical. You don't like people thinking a certain way. That's bigoted.

I, personally, don't think it does... but you're dreaming if you don't think some people consider that when making their choice. If Mitt had been a mainstream Protestant he'd be running away with this thing.

I don't think it's bigoted at all. We all come from different backgrounds. Those shape how we think and behave. It's just a fact. I wasn't saying that all religious people are bad, or anything
of that sort. I am simply saying that a viewpoint from a Catholic person on abortion could be vastly different than one of an atheist. The same can be said for people growing up in racially homogenized environments versus those who grow up in a multicultural neighbourhood.

I hope Huntsman steps into the void, but I think they still might rally around Santorum - he's socially conservative enough for these people to overlook his religious beliefs.

I don't care unless I see candidates using their religion to suggest ways to infringe upon my rights (Santorum and Bachmann, I'm looking at you- incidentally, it is not a problem I have with Romney) but it is absolutely a huge deal in some places, South Carolina being one of them.
