U.S. Political Discussion Thread #4: Heated debates coming this way!

Banner by 4N6 DNA

Last thread: U.S. Politics Discussion Thread #3 - Hello mid-term elections!

Carry on!

Well, Sarah Palin has more negative things to say about the president:

Palin calls Obama actions ‘appalling’ – CNN Political Ticker - CNN.com Blogs

Washington (CNN) - Calling President Obama's handling of the budget showdown "appalling," Sarah Palin is adding her voice to GOP clamor that he is playing politics with the U.S. military in an effort to get his way on spending.
In a posting on Facebook Friday, Palin blasts Obama for his refusal to sign a Republican-backed bill that aimed to cut spending by $12 billion and fund the Pentagon for the remainder of the current fiscal year.

The president and Democrats opposed the measure because of the programs it would cut, including a provision that would prevent Washington, DC taxpayer money to be used to fund abortion providers.
But Palin charges the president's real concern is about funding such organizations as National Public Radio.
"Essentially, he's holding military funding hostage to NPR funding. This is a perfect analogy for what is wrong with this entire budget showdown," writes Palin. "Our federal government has strayed so far from what is constitutionally mandated that they are blind to the fact that NPR funding is not a constitutional duty. Funding our military at a time of war is!"
"It's about time the President step up to the plate and lead responsibly. Our troops who are putting themselves in harm's way deserve a Commander in Chief who is not AWOL from the debt debate," Palin continues. "The American people deserve a president who will take on the tough challenges and understand that funding 'Car Talk' is not as crucial as funding our troops at a time of three wars."

Gee whiz, even other GOP members have come out to congratulate Obama on how he handled the whole Bin Laden thing. This lady never stops.

I think sometimes the problem with the two parties is both have an incredibly hard time giving each other credit where credit is earned. No matter what one accomplishes the opposing party always has to find flaws.

I think mostly she is frustrated because she believes the military is in more need of tax payer money. A lot of people have become upset over the undercover scandal that taped a dinner with NPR executive where he said some harsh things. When some people heard this it madd them question having their taxpayer money fund them. I think overall NPR should do what all other broadcasting radio does..gain revenue through advertisement. We are in debt and we can't spend money on every organization. If they really are that popular and talented then they should have zero problem obtaining money, using those methods, to keep their company afloat.

Tftnt!

She's uneducated? She did go to college.

I hope you don't mind that I edited in the OP, Caroline. I also added the tags and edited the link to this board in our board guide.

As for Sarah Palin, I think the problem still is that she's trying to pass herself off as a serious politician when it's clear that she has no understanding of the issues at hand nor of the political wrangling that is so transparent in them. So she falls back on sound bites that appeal to that part of her base that don't want to be bothered with thinking very much on the issues and this is the result.

The military gets the lion share of the budget in this country. Other departments, groups, people suffer but the military and the million/billion dollars that go to military contractors aren't hurting as much as others.

That whole recorded conversation with the NPR executve was found to be heavily edited. Not that what the NPR executive did wasn't stupid. It was but tje Republicans/Conservatives want NPR out and that's that.

The less said about Palin the better IMO.

The country is in debt but when oil companies get huge subsidies from the Government and huge corporations don't pay taxes on billions of dollars in profits I'm having a hard time blaming NPR for our problems.

I don't know about uneducated, but I absolutely think Sarah Palin is ignorant about the political system and the problems and realities of our country (and you can have the education in the world and still be ignorant, lol). And she's been that way all along. Like two days before McCain picked her for VP, she openly admitted she has no idea what the VP does. Like, she knew less than I do about the role, lol. She is thoroughly unqualified to be a political leader in any way, shape, or form.

Very well said. Might be part of the reason she's nit doing so well in the ratings for possible presidential candidacy. If all fails, she'll probably write another book or do another show for a certain network.

Donald Trump's also doing his patriotic duty by splitting the crazy vote with Palin.

Bill Maher made a joke once about how Reagan used to say that the nine most terrifying words of the English language were, "I'm from the government and I'm here to help" but now (at the time of last election) it had become "I'm Sarah Palin, now give me those nuclear codes."

And, I have to say, he has a point.

LOL Gotta love Bill Maher. Neither Palin nor Trump will come close to those codes.

And if they do, I'm off to Canada!

Both are still better than Bush, even if just a little.

I don't know... at least Bush was surrounded by smart people.

And now I've just defended Bush. I need to go shower.

Sarah Palin loves attention. That's all she is. She's an attention seeker. Seriously, if people just ignored her, she would go back to Alaska and see Russia from her house.
