Okay.... I'll take a bite on this subject.

Bringing over a link of quotes with reactions to the attacks posted by StrongPlacebo on the first thread to high light a point. Hope that StrongPlacebo doesn't mind.

http://www.livejournal.com/users/tyrell/154027.html

My basic reaction to the LJ link is as a Canadian with a couple of grandparents who were from the UK.... is....

One of my favourite quotes on the LJ is:

Quote:
"It's hard to panic the British. They've dealt with the Blitz, the IRA, the Silurians, the Zarbi, the Daleks, the Cybermen..."
And what I kept on thinking while reading the "Tea Against Terrorism" stuff on said LJ was about the value of an in depth knowledge of history. It is sort of curious how any one with even the slightest comprehension of British history could even begin to think that acts of terrorism would actually terrorize London. Not discounting the loss of life and the grief of those who lost friends and family.... just stating... that London being London.... it will go on being London.

Also think that the terrorist attacks on London were an attempt to distract the G8 from their agenda concerning allievating poverty in Africa and global warming. I'm glad that they stuck with their planned agenda.

Not that I don't think that terrorism is a serious problem... just think that the world shouldn't allow a small minority of fanatics to distract people from working at finding solutions for other pressing problems in this world. Also think that the majority of moderate Muslims are victims of this form of terrorism.

At this point in time, from what I have read, whether people in the US and the UK, etc., were originally for or against the war in Iraq, most now would like to see their troops come home.

In my opinion, the best way to get the US and the UK, etc., out of Iraq is for the Iraqis and the rest of the Arab world to condemn the insurgents who are killing mostly Iraqis in Iraq. Iraq held elections and to my knowledge.... candidates who support the continuation of insurgent type violence didn't win. So the insurgents are basically terrorizing their own people.

The insurgents don't seem to care who they kill in order to attain their goals - very much like those who planted the devices in London. London is so multi-cultural, so multi-ethnic, it would be insane to think that the explosions would harm only Brits. The front page of the Independent the other day showed the image of two beautiful young women - one Muslim, one Christian, both missing.

Politically, I don't think Blair will be damaged - he showed great leadership in the hours after the attack and the plans put in place to deal with the aftermath worked well.

I think it's clear that the attack on London is an attempt to scare US allies. Thus attempting to divide us. I've been against the war in Iraq from the beginning, but now that we're well into it the last thing we can do is give into the terrorists. With that said, this should be a grim reminder to everyone that the focus should be on Bin Laden & his followers. Whether you agree with our presence in Iraq or not it's clear that the war on terror has no boundaries.

We have to look at the fact that this isn't all Bin Laden. Going for the heart of the monster will not kill it in this case. No one has heard anything from him in quite a while and whether this means he's keeping his head down or he's still leading from a hidden location, no one knows, but the fact remains that there is now a huge terror network out there, and it's just not Islamic militants but hundreds of other factions and groups. This is a worldwide cult that has to be brought to its knees and the dozens of splinter organizations. Religion is the largest weapon one can use because it inspires fanatical loyalty to a cause.
