Stephen Colbert gives speech at White House Correspondence dinner

I think this goes here. But this is one of the funniest things i've heard in a long time. The video is here

http://crooksandliars.com/

I'm amazed that someone around the Bush adminstration bought Colberts act enough to allow him to invite him here. I'd think that anyone could tell he's joking, but apparently not.

"Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you've got kicking around in your head, you know the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the adminstration. You know, fiction."

Lots of good jokes through it all, and lots of silence from the audience once they catch on to him making fun of them.

Gotta love Stephen Colbert. Anyone watch The Colbert Report? He's always dissing Jack Abramoff (or something like that)

I watch that show religiously. Has anyone ever seen any of the 'Better Know a District' series? It is awesome.

60 minutes did a report on him earlier this evening, it was pretty good.

I know, he's always asking the district leaders "Did you take money from Jack Abrimoff?"

The Word, Threat Down, and even Stephen Settles the Debate, are my favorites. There was that one time after Rosa Parks' death that his word for The Word was "Overrated".

I wonder if we're allowed to make a Colbert thread. It's not exactly a TV show and it falls under the politics section

Oh well, I just PM'd the mods just in case There doesn't seem to be an appreciation thread for this thread so it just might be the first.

I just had to watch that video clip again. Colbert was priceless running away from the reporter just because she kept asking "Why did we invade Iraq?" And then when he was calling for help, the attendant was like "Yeah, why did we invade Iraq?" and Colbert was screaming "NOOOOOO!!!!"

I just saw the full video, that one I posted doesn't include some of the better parts.

"Wow what an honor, the White House Corresondence dinner. To sit here at the same table with my hero, George W Bush. To be this close to the man. I feel like i'm dreaming, somebody pinch me. You know what, i'm a pretty sound sleeper that may not work, somebody shoot me in the face."

I PM'd the mods. Lexis told me she'll talk to Carolyn cause they weren't sure if it's something that's meant for the TV board. Oh well, we'll see what happens.

And I saw the video clip from 60 minutes. Too bad it got cut off in the end when I was watching it

Edited-Okay, we're not allowed to have the thread for The Colbert Report on the News board (for this might bring in other news shows like The Daily Show or The O'Reilly Factor) so I put it in the TV thread (click on the link in my signature to go there)

Seems Dubya went to bed with a pout because a certain funny someone was mean to him...

Quote:
Comedy Central star Stephen Colbert's biting routine at the White House Correspondents Association dinner won a rare silent protest from Bush aides and supporters Saturday when several independently left before he finished.

"Colbert crossed the line," said one top Bush aide, who rushed out of the hotel as soon as Colbert finished. Another said that the president was visibly angered by the sharp lines that kept coming.

"I've been there before, and I can see that he is [angry]," said a former top aide. "He's got that look that he's ready to blow."

Colbert's routine was similar to what he does on his show, the Colbert Report, but much longer on the topic of Bush, suggesting that the president is out of touch with reality. Aides and reporters, however, said that it did not overshadow Bush's own funny routine, which featured an impersonator who told the audience what Bush was thinking when he spoke dull speech lines.

In fact, some aides crowed over reports that the president easily bested Colbert in the reviews of both comedy acts.
