Hey mystic I am going to edit the title so that it is just stem cell. There isn't a limit on how many threads we can have here and we already have an abortion thread. So if another topic comes up that you'd like to discuss just start another thread for this. One topic per thread makes it a little easier to figure out what's going on. We get into enough arguements one topic at a time

see, i don't get that. it's already been created anyway, and isn't likely to ever become a fetus (not one that would survive more than a couple hours anyway), so it's probably going in the trash.

yeah, i never got that part anyways. I thought it was from ones that are unused and would be thrown away anyways. i don't see the harm.

I don't know where I stand on the issue either. On one hand I am leery about where the embryos are coming from, whether or not they are created specifically for this purpose, or are "leftovers" from fertility clinics, etc.

On the other hand I have personal experience with some of the diseases that could be cured, or aided by stem cell research. It's tough.

I am all for stem cell research. For me, it's a no-brainer.

This administration is so worried about protecting the lives of embryos and fetuses but they don't care about you once you're born. They're all for the death penalty and against stem cell research, which could help cure thousands of people.

I propose that all people who are against stem cell research sign a contract. The contract will say that they don't want their money going towards stem cell research. In turn, if they ever get a disease or become paralyzed, they will not be allowed to receive the benefits of stem cell research. We won't cure them, we will let them die.

Sound good? That seems fair to me.

I am against killing something that may have a chance at life in order to save something else. I think If someone has an injury or a terminal illness that we are unable to cure right now with traditional medicine, then they probably weren't meant to find one yet. I mean, thats not to say that they never will, or that we shouldn't keep trying, I just think there are more ways to find cure, even in stem cell research than using embyos. This issue effects me very closely on a daily basis so I'm not just spouting off ideals.

You don't know what you are talking about. You obviously don't understand much about pinal cord injuries to be talking about how stem cell research could or couldn't help fix them.

Stem cell research just helped a paralyzed woman walk again in South Korea.

I seriously doubt that. Do you have a link? Cause if you do, hell I'll print it off an run it up to my brother who, 5 years after his initial injury is once again back in the hospital, this time for christmas.

First of all, that article specifically said that more info and verification was required and secondly, that was umbilical cord stem cell, I specifically said I am not against that, only embryotic because it is ending a life. Cord cells are not used or need for anyone to survive after the baby is born. You can even take cells before the baby is born if you are careful. If there is a way to use those cord cells successfully thats wonderful, but I'll have to see more proof.

Yes, and there have been a lot of times those doubters were right, what does that prove?

I see no problem with it and I hope research carries on. This is the next big step in the medical field. There is nothing morally wrong with it and if people don't like they should not be able to recieve the benifits of it.

It is going to happen no matter what "W" or any other right wing politician in the US says. It may advance more quickly if America was on board.

As I've said before, neither W nor I am against anything but embryonic research, the other forms are fine with us.
