| Sophie Delezio's Father, Named Father of the Year Ron Delezio named Father of the Year Friday Sep 1 14:34 AEST Ron Delezio, the father of five-year-old burns survivor Sophie, has been named the 2006 Australian Father of the Year Ron Delezio, the father of five-year-old burns survivor Sophie, has been named the 2006 Australian Father of the Year. Awarded the honour at the annual father's day luncheon at Parliament House in Sydney on Friday, Mr Delezio said he was completely surprised. "My first thoughts were of all the other fathers that I have been involved with during our hospital stays with Sophie," he said. "So many other fathers who had to support their children through very difficult times and sometimes leading to the worst situation where they have lost a child." His daughter Sophie has survived two near death accidents in recent years. As a two-year-old she had both feet amputated after suffering burns to 85 per cent of her body when a car crashed into her daycare centre. Earlier this year, she was again seriously injured when run down by a car on Sydney's north shore. Since Sophie's first accident Mr Delezio has worked to provide emotional and financial support to families caring for sick and injured children, setting up the Day of Difference Foundation in 2004. | Sophie is an amazing little Girl. Thinking about, through what she's been in her young life. Incredible. And she seems to be always so happy and smiling. I think her Dad deserves the Award.
