So... what do you do about it all?

We read the papers, watch the news, discuss the issues. We feel bad about the way things are going... and then what?

Do you write letters to leaders? Protest? Boycott? Voluenteer? What do you do that might make this world a better place?

I used to volunteer, currently I don't. I boycott several products. Luckily we don't have Wal-Mart here or I'd boycott them, too. I keep wanting to go to protests but have only been to one.

[Yeah, I'm trying to liven up the board so it won't get closed :[]

I boycott Roman Polansky and Woody Allen movies, does that count?

Well, not so much boycott (which brings up images of picketting for some reason in my mind) as actively not watch.

Also, I recycle, I conserve energy, I bring my own bags to the grocery store.

I inform myself and let that knowledge, however hodge-podge it may be, inform the decisions I make.

If it's something I truly do not support, I simply do not give it power such as by buying it (if it's a particular item) and so forth.

I don't do nearly as much as I should, sadly. I recycle. I turn the water off when I'm brushing my teeth lol. I VOTE, and that's something that is very important and more people, especially young adults, need to take advantage of...

I've written a letter to the editor about the lack of employment opportunites in my town and it made it on the paper.

I recycle whatever I can even cardboard boxes and things like milk jugs even if I don't get money from it, I have my own grocery bag which I often take with me, I turn off all unnessicary lights, I get really annoyed when people litter so I never do even if I am no where near a trash can and I buy recylced toilet paper and paper towels.

I haven't boycotted anything so far. I'll never own and SUV or any gas guzzler for that matter.

Oh, people who litter bug the hell out of me.

In Montreal, they even did a campaign to bring attention to the littering problem in metros and metro stations. Because they give free papers in the metro, you see, so people would just leave them behind (at best, they'd leave them on their seat). Either way, it always winds up on the floor.

I've given so many nasty looks in the metros, people must think I've got issues...

But, yeah, I personally refuse to litter. My bags (purse or otherwise) are full of crap because I won't throw it on the floor or on the tracks...

Yeah, the only time I made the paper was when I was 11. And that's just because I was in the hospital when the Montreal Expos were visiting and, for whatever reason, they selected my picture to showcase the whole thing...

I really would have prefered having it be for something cool like yours, Jen.

Thank you. I just read an article that my sister sent to the paper. It was about my towns homeless pet population problem and having pets could make more money seeing as with the pet deposits and tenants with pets tend to stay longer. Most landlords in my town don't allow pets.

Oh, don't beat yourself up too much. You can't argue with the prices sometimes. And, if you're living on a budget...

The important thing is to do our best whenever we can, not to be perfect.

I've published articles in my local newspaper about a variety of subjects. I also drive a fuel efficient car and use public transportation as much as I can when I'm on campus. I probably only use my car once or twice a week. I also recycle when I can and do a lot of volunteer work, though less now since I'm a full-time student.
