Smallpox

Hi guys... I came across a discouraging article and I was hoping that you could maybe provide some assurance. Basically, I didn't really realize that smallpox was such a threat in the US. With the shortage of flu shots this year, it makes me wonder... what are we going to do if something bad happens (ie terrorist attack using bioligcal warfare)?

If smallpox was used as a weapon the shots we have would probably be worthless cause the smallpox would be genetically changed for the purpose of getting everyone sick.

But honestly, I don't see that happening. And if it did, people used to get small poxs all the time. Yes, people would die but I think that there are larger, more damaging things the terrorist could do against us. So smallpoxs just seem like something they would waste there time on

Um, wasn't smallpox eradicated? And aren't we all vaccinated in the US when we are babies?

Nope, not anymore. Cause we thought we got rid of it we didn't do the vaccinations anymore for the past thirty years or so I believe.

And no one gets smallpoxs anymore but there are still strains of the virus in labs to be studied. And all you would need to do is release one of those samples.

I don't think a shortage of flu-shots will make any difference if there is an outbreak of smallpox. I think people shoould be more worried about SARS. And 'bird-flu'.
