See how easy it is to manipulate the media?

http://www.ryano.net/iraq/ for the whole story, you can make your own pictures.

Many newspapers of course jumped on this idiotic fake pictures, and published them, causing a uproar. (the picture in question said something about a soldier killing a child's father, then knocking up his sister)

I love the word propaganda. If I could spell it - did I spell it right?

Anyways, one thing that I look out for in the media with issues, is the fact that we mainly get the information the government wants us to get. Sure, sometimes journalists find us other information - but that too is mostly second hand information. Even though we get more real info to us than we used to due to having more adavanced technoligy and different mediums, there is still information withheld from us and left out.

Well, it's nice to know that the Iraqi's even love Fan Forum.

That "picture" is hilarious.

Yeah, it isn't so hard to mainpulate some pictures. Though, I hope the point of this topic wasn't to imply that the pictures of US soldiers abusing and humiliating Iraqi prisoners are also a product of image manipulation via Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft Paint. Those pictures were for real.

Well the picture above isn't manipulated information but plain fake information. Usually, it's easy to verify, even if fake informations like this one can have bad influence on a short term.

What is more vicious is the manipulation of media Monroe is talking about, with news/informations being either purposely withheld or one-sided. Unfortunately this is a casual thing everywhere around the world. Hence the necessity of having sereral sources of information and not just one. And thank god for internet, which is probably the best way for informations to spread throughout the world.

In History, our teacher gave us two newspaper articles ( one from Egnaldn and one translated from Germany) regarding an incident in the second world war. It was interesting to see how different they remembered that incident.

The Internet is great...you can access so many newspapers and sources online from different places and draw close to the correct information from that.

(Oh, and that picture - I wrote my best friend a message telling that her fly was undone. She was tres impressed)

Now wait a second, wasn't there some newspaper that published fake pictures of Iraqui prisoners being tortured?

I am not saying that all the pictures were false, but some newspaper (I don't think an American one, I think British one) recently published front page pictures that were in fact, fake.

It's too bad the media doesn't have to cite it's sources all the time!

I think what it comes down to is you have to read/see everything with a questioning eye. Everything, including statistics, can be manipulated. It's very easy to "accidentally" leave stuff out.

The British case is different. Those shots were in trucks that were later found to be in England, and were never put in that area of Iraq. None of the equipment was right, and no faces were ever shown. We have the Americans who did this. We have their admissions, plus the photos are unquestionably true.
