What is said in private is not meant to be publicly displayed. That would be like finding your underwear on the front page of the newspaper. What is said in private is meant to be private, especially in cases like this where, whether this man wants to admit it or not, someone did this for personal or political gain. It disgusts me that people do things like this. __________________ Real Gamers Wear Pink "There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed." — Ernest Hemingway

| Who cares if it was secretely taped? He is the PRESIDENT I think all of his conversations should be taped. It still doesn't dispute or account for what he said. What he has said is just disgusting, regard of how the information was obtained. Ugh. And as for the drug comment: hello me druggie! What a hypocrite. Just when you think he can't surprise you anymore he does. It's a gift. "I'm not going to kick gays, because I'm a sinner. How can I differentiate sin?" -President Bush I can't even begin to comment on that one... __________________ Nikki Heat made my Icon | |||

Honestly, I'm not sure why these taped conversations were revealed. There's nothing damning there, that's for sure. If anything, these converstations probably help Bush more than hurt him, especially given the current scandal of hiring a gay prostitute to propagandize his administration. Quote:

| None of it seems particularly damaging to me; then again I just skimmed through it. So what the issue here really is is whether it's okay to tape a politician's private conversations. I can see the arguments for both sides, but I don't really see how Bush supporters who constantly bashed Clinton for his private affairs can complain. | |||

Clinton admitted to smoking on the campaign trail and no one made a huge deal over that. Private and public life should be seperate. We all have said things in private that are not good reflections on us publically and I'm sure we don't all want to have our lives broadcast for the world to see. I'm insulted that you disregard his right to privacy simply because he is the president. His life at this point is already under the scrutiny of the masses but before he was president he confided in a friend and confident. Perhaps if you feel that this isn't a problem we should all post every past transgression, sexual history, and every thought that passes through our heads and word that passes across our lips. Or perhaps I have more respect for the impulsive action of the private world than you do. __________________ Real Gamers Wear Pink "There is nothing to writing. I am sorry you are insulted by my opinon, but that is my opinon and I am not going to change it. It's a little different when you are President, and I don't trust him and I think he is scum, so therefore I and every other person who feels like I do should be able to know what is going on his life and the way he really acts. He is not a good actor, and when he is on the platform my eyes glaze over (and now i dont' even watch him cause everything he says is bull****) so therefore if he wants some to trust him then he can let us see a glimpse of who this idiot really is. I have respect for the private world, so do not imply I don't. I don't have respect for his private world because he has so much power, and I think he is scum and would love to see the "real" him. This was refresing in that I actually got to see the real Bush here and- surprise! - I hate him just as much if not more. __________________ Nikki Heat made my Icon

| Actually there was a big deal made about Clinton admitting to smoking pot during his campaign. His personal life was fair game for his opponents. That being said these tapes are pretty inconsequential. Who cares about whether he smoked pot. It would be more newsworthy if someone from that generation never tried it. Bush has been pretty much shielded by his handlers and advisers as to his real personality so for some who are big supporters it might be a shock. To the rest of us it's really nothing. The media should be paying more attention to the Guckert/Gannon story than they are. That's a bigger story than this one. __________________ The Committee To Re-elect President Obama: Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul Last edited by ceilirose; 02-21-2005 at 08:00 AM. | |||

| I don't really like the idea of being secretly taped (although I did secretly tape my girlfriend once when she was singing, but that was funny ), but it's not illegal in some places...so I guess it doesn't matter all that much. Quote:

| In my opinion, these tapes are meaningless because they serve no real purpose. They do not "expose or uncover" anything about Bush. It is just a cheap shot for this man to try and I guess get a book deal - if he doesn't have one already. With friends like that.. Quote:

2. His news organization (Talon News) is a subsidiary of GOPUSA which is a Republican activist group. They were created in March 2003 and a few days later Gannon/Guckert started to get one day passes to the briefings. He actually got into the briefings before that under who knows what news company but that's another story. 3. His stories mainly consisted of straight transcripts of the WH briefings. He can't remember the date or where/when his first article was published. Most journalists just shook their head and laughed at that one. 4. How do you get a pass in post 9/11 tight security times with an alias? 5. Why did Scott McClellan say that he only recently heard of Guckert/Gannon but then say that he and Ari Fleischer discussed him two years ago? 6. Why did he make references to seeing a classified CIA document regarding outed CIA agent Plame but then backtrack from that? 7. His past professional experience consisted of running a male escort service which amounts to prostitution. That's illegal. Why is someone who ran an illegal business allowed access to the WH briefings and the President? 8. Is there a pattern of the WH circumventing regular media sources by planting a ringer who could ask softball questions and give Fleischer, McClellan and Bush a break? 9. In light of the WH paying off conservative journalist for propaganda purposes then the question of whether we have a functioning objective questioning press is pretty important. There are several layers to this story but two are what is happening to the media in this country and is the WH trying to control the story and what gets out too tightly. There are others but there more of the conspiracy, personal nature which at this point are just conjecture. Yes I'm partisan but if this happened in a Clinton Administration then Republicans would be lining up investigation after investigation and talking impeachment right now. Along with 24/7 coverage of this on cable news. __________________ The Committee To Re-elect President Obama: Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul

You don't know how I reacted during the Clinton scandal, so you have no bearing with that "argument". I wasn't into politics then, and I didn't really care about it, nor did I even really know that I was a liberal, so that doesn't apply. But looking back, if I think Bush should be taped then yes, Clinton should as well (not anymore cause he's not President). Sastified? __________________ Nikki Heat made my Icon

I don't really mind either way because nothing really shocking on these tapes or bothersome to me. Probably would have had more of an impact if they were realeased around the election. Now who is this male escort guy? I think escort services are disgusting, but they advertise in the phone book in Chicago, so I don't know if they are illegal. Maybe they are? That's pretty nasty though if he did run that. Did he himself do any of the "escorting" I wonder?
