Rick James dies at 56

Hey guys. I just found this out:

Rick James found dead

Singer best known for hit 'Super Freak'
died of apparent natural causes
Singer Rick James was found dead at a residence near Universal City.

LOS ANGELES - Funk legend Rick James, best known for the 1981 hit “Super Freak,” died Friday, apparently of natural causes, police said. He was 56.

James died at 9:45 a.m. at a residence near Universal City, said Officer Esther Reyes, a Police Department spokeswoman.

“He died apparently of natural causes. We learned of his death after responding to a radio call,” Reyes said.

After his big hit, James’ fame began to fade as he became embroiled in drugs and legal problems.

James was convicted in 1993 of assaulting two women. The first attack occurred in 1991 when he restrained and burned a young woman with a hot pipe during a cocaine binge at his house in West Hollywood. He was free on bail when the second assault occurred in 1992 in James’ hotel room.

James was sentenced to more than two years in state prison.

In 1997, he released a new album, but a year later he suffered a stroke while performing at Denver’s Mammoth Events Center, derailing a comeback tour.

In 1998 he also underwent hip replacement surgery.

Gosh, he was so young. How sad. I pray for his family through this difficult time.

I was just about to post that. It's so weird 'cause I just saw him on the BET Awards the other day and he just did an interview with King Magazine.

I just read about this on Fox News a little while ago. I was kinda surprised, because he really wasn't that old. Now I've got "Super Freak" in my head.

That's sad that he's dead. I wasn't a big fan or anything but I've always known of him and who doesn't know "Super Freak"? I guess he must have had cancer or something else to die of natural causes so young..

One thing I always think of when I read anything about him is how he used to date Linda Blair. I'm suprised that wasn't mentioned in the article.. that and more info about his life, not just his arrest record, you know?

The last time I saw him was on Chappelle's Show. How come in the article they had to list his criminal past? Can't a man who served his time be free of that burden in death. I could understand it if he had murdered or raped someone. I just think it's disrespectful. It's like saying this guy died, but this is what he did wrong and had to pay for. Oh yeah, he also got hip surgery. It just doesn't make sense to me.
