Repubs/Conservatives: Warning! May Contain Traces of Conservatives And/Or Other Nuts

Welcome to the 11th Republican/Conservative thread. If you're a newbie, please don't feel intimidated to post your thoughts, or even just stop in to say hello. All posters, whether you be conservative or liberal are welcome as long as you are not here to antagonize or start arguments. Of course all the general board rules apply.

~*~

Please note the below information on how we all can support our troops. I think this info should be included at the start of each thread. If you know of any other legitimate organizations that you think should be added to the list, please let me know!

USO Care Package. Due to increased security, people are no longer allowed to send care packages to "Any Soldier." For a $25 donation, the USO will send a care package to one of the troops.

You can also "adopt" a specific service member to pray for by visiting this website.

There are probably quite a few service members who do not receive a lot of mail, if any at all. The mail that they do receive gets to them very slowly. If you would like to correspond with any of the troops, you can visit Operation Military Support for more info (i.e. to request the name of someone with whom you can exchange letters).

Operation Shoebox is a good site as well. If you already have someone overseas to whom you can mail a care package, it has suggestions on what to include. If you don’t know of anyone but want to contribute items for a care package, it has information on how you do that as well.

We aren't not trying to specifically plug any of the above. I just think it is great that there are so many different ways that we can show our support for the men and women who defend us and protect our country.

*~*

Now have fun

I thought this was very interesting and paints a more optimistic view of what has been accomplished in Iraq over the last year. Our local National Guard unit just returned home after 13 months there and they say the same things:

This is a letter from Ray Reynolds, a medic in the Iowa Army National Guard, serving in Iraq:

As I head off to Baghdad for the final weeks of my stay in Iraq, I wanted to say thanks to all of you who did not believe the media. They have done a very poor job of covering everything that has happened. I am sorry that I have not been able to visit all of you during my two week leave back home. And just so you can rest at night knowing something is happening in Iraq that is noteworthy, I thought I would pass this on to you. This is the list of things that has happened in Iraq recently:
(Please share it with your friends and compare it to the version that your paper is producing.)

* Over 400,000 kids have up-to-date immunizations.
* School attendance is up 80% from levels before the war.
* Over 1,500 schools have been renovated and rid of the weapons stored there so education can occur.
* The port of Uhm Qasar was renovated so grain can be off-loaded from ships faster.
* The country had its first 2 billion barrel export of oil in August.
* Over 4.5 million people have clean drinking water for the first time ever in Iraq.
* The country now receives 2 times the electrical power it did before the war.
* 100% of the hospitals are open and fully staffed, compared to 35% before the war.
* Elections are taking place in every major city, and city councils are in place.
* Sewer and water lines are installed in every major city.
* Over 60,000 police are patrolling the streets.
* Over 100,000 Iraqi civil defense police are securing the country.
* Over 80,000 Iraqi soldiers are patrolling the streets side by side with US soldiers.
* Over 400,000 people have telephones for the first time ever
* Students are taught field sanitation and hand washing techniques to prevent the spread of germs.
* An interim constitution has been signed.
* Girls are allowed to attend school.
* Textbooks that don't mention Saddam are in the schools for the first time in 30 years.

Don't believe for one-second that these people do not want us there. I have met many, many people from Iraq that want us there, and in a bad way. They say they will never see the freedoms we talk about but they hope their children will. We are doing a good job in Iraq and I challenge anyone, anywhere to dispute me on these facts. So If you happen to run into John Kerry, be sure to give him my email address and send him to Denison, Iowa. This soldier will set him straight.

Quote:
April 25, 2004 -- DERANGED documentarian Michael Moore likens the cowards who murder U.S soldiers in Iraq to the colonists who fought in the American Revolution. "The Iraqis who have risen up against the occupation are not 'insurgents' or 'terrorists' or 'The Enemy,' " he writes on his Web site. "They are the REVOLUTION, the Minutemen, and their numbers will grow - and they will win. Get it, Mr. [George W.] Bush?" The flabby filmmaker goes on to say that the UN should stay out of Iraq because Americans who supported the war deserve to see their sons and daughters die in it. "Why should the other countries of this world, countries who tried to talk us out of this folly, now have to clean up our mess? . . . I'm sorry, but the majority of Americans supported this war once it began and, sadly, that majority must now sac rifice their children until enough blood has been let that maybe - just maybe - God and the Iraqi people will forgive us in the end."

Gotta love snarky bumper stickers.

*****************************************

Edited because I just read an interesting piece in Front Page Mag titled "Killer Chic" by Myles Kantor. It is about Che Guevara, a murdering buddy of Castro who many people idolize as a revolutionary. Read the article (and the footnotes) and see if he seems that revolutionary to you. Next time you see his face on someone's t-shirt (as shown below), you will know to not only seriously question his/her fashion sense but also his/her judgment.

Crowe Helps Out Montreal Jewish School

Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe was so distraught by a firebombing at a Jewish elementary school in Canada, he's offered to help rebuild its library. Crowe, who is currently in Toronto filming Cinderella Man, learned of the horrific act, which took place in Montreal, and decided to help the school get back on its feet. United Talmud Torahs elementary school was fire-bombed earlier this month and police said a note with anti-Semitic comments was found on the outside wall of the gutted library. Montreal resident Shelley Paris says, "It was a huge morale boost for the school community. He said he was very upset about what had happened that a place of learning should be attacked that way. He wanted to make sure that our students knew that he was thinking about them and that he was very upset about the firebombing." Paris says the school hopes to reopen the library by August - the start of the new school year - and has received donations and support from across the country.

Wow, that is really cool. He always seemed like kind of a jerk to me whenever I saw him on TV but that's a really great thing to do.

Funny Ha Ha

Just got these in an email, so I thought I would share Hope it gives you a chuckle!

**********************************************

A teacher in a small Vermont town asks her class how many of them are John Kerry fans. Not really knowing what a John Kerry fan is, but wanting to be liked by the teacher, all the kids raise their hands except one boy. The teacher asks Johnny why he has decided to be different.

Johnny says, "I'm not a John Kerry fan."

The teacher says, "Why aren't you a John Kerry fan?"

Johnny says, "I'm a George Bush fan."

The teacher asks why he's a George Bush fan. The boy says, "Well, my mom's a George Bush fan and my dad's a George Bush fan, so I'm a George Bush fan!"

The teacher is kind of angry, because this is Vermont, so she asks, "What if your mom was a moron and your dad was an idiot, what would that make you?"

Johnny says, "That would make me a John Kerry fan."

************************************************

A tourist walked into a curio shop in San Francisco. Looking around at the exotica, he noticed a very lifelike, life-sized bronze statue of a rat. It had no price tag, but was so striking he decided he must have it. He took it to the owner: "How much for the bronze rat?"

"Twelve dollars for the rat, one hundred dollars for the story," said the
owner. The tourist gave the man twelve dollars. "I'll just take the rat, you can keep the story."

As he walked down the street carrying his bronze rat, he noticed that a
few real rats had crawled out of the alleys and sewers and began following him down the street. This was disconcerting, he began walking faster. But within a couple blocks, the herd of rats behind him had grown to hundreds, and they began squealing. He began to trot toward the Bay, looking around to see that the rats now numbered in the MILLIONS, and were squealing and coming toward him faster and faster.

Concerned, even scared, he ran to the edge of the Bay, and threw the bronze rat as far out into the Bay as he could. Amazingly, the millions of rats all jumped into the Bay after it, and were all drowned.

The man walked back to the curio shop. "Ah ha," said the owner, "You have come back for the story?"

"No," said the man. "I came back to see if you have a bronze Democrat?

ETA this latest one

The US Postal Service has issued a recall of a stamp they created with a picture of now US Senator Hillary Clinton to honor her achievements while serving as the First Lady of our nation.

The problem was discovered when claims had been made that the stamp was not sticking to envelopes, and that mail which had been sent using the "Hillary" postage was not being delivered. Senator Clinton demanded a full investigation into the allegations.

A special Postal Service Investigation team was formed and after several months and many dollars spent, made the following findings:

*The stamp was manufactured properly.
*There was nothing wrong with the adhesive.
*People were just spitting on the wrong side

from here: http://www.swiftvets.com/Index2.htm

Quote:
Senator Kerry

We write from our common heritage as veterans of duty aboard Swift Boats in the Vietnam War. Indeed, you should note that a substantial number of those men who served directly with you during your four month tour in Vietnam have signed this letter.

It is our collective judgment that, upon your return from Vietnam, you grossly and knowingly distorted the conduct of the American soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen of that war (including a betrayal of many of us, without regard for the danger your actions caused us). Further, we believe that you have withheld and/or distorted material facts as to your own conduct in this war.

We believe you continue this conduct today, albeit by changing from an anti-war to a "war hero" status. You now seek to clad yourself in the very medals that you disdainfully threw away in the early years of your political career. In the process, we believe you continue a deception as to your own conduct through such tactics as the disclosure of only carefully screened portions of your military records. Both then and now, we have concluded that you have deceived the public, and in the process have betrayed honorable men, to further your personal political goals.

Your conduct is such as to raise substantive concerns as to your honesty and your ability to serve, as you currently seek, as Commander-in-Chief of the military services.

It is vital that the American public have as much information as possible about candidates for President of the United States. In various ways, you have rightly called upon President Bush to be fully accountable and to provide full disclosure. In the same spirit, now that you are the presumptive nominee of your Party, we believe it is incumbent upon you to make your total military record open to the American people.

Specifically, we the undersigned formally request that you authorize the Department of the Navy to independently release your military records (through your execution of Standard Form 180), complete and unaltered, including your military medical records. Further, we call upon you to correct the misconceptions your campaign seeks to create as to your conduct while in Vietnam. Permit the American public the opportunity to assess your military performance upon the record, and not upon campaign rhetoric.

Senator Kerry, we were there. We know the truth. We have been silent long enough. The stakes are too great, not only for America in general but, most importantly, for those who have followed us into service in Iraq and Afghanistan. We call upon you to provide a full, accurate accounting of your conduct in Vietnam.

So I just got a phone call from the Bush Campaign people here in town asking me to volunteer by calling people to find out whether they are going to vote for Bush or not. The results determine how much money gets spent on Bush's campaign here.

Hey guys....haven't been here in quite a long while. I was going through the first post and I noticed the link for Operation Military Supposrt is still up.... I did that about a year ago, but I never heard anything back. Just signed up again. I'll have to try and remember to stop by here more often when I'm on... it's more interesting getting 'news' from you guys than it is other places.
