Question about liberal/conservative media.

Which media outlets, whether on the tv on the internet, are considered liberal and which are conservative?

I am interested in knowing which side these programs are coming from:

the financial times
the economist
cnn
the ny times
bbc
npr

Not sure about the first 2, but the last 4 are considered liberal.

The FT is middle-right I think. The BBC is neutral (its a public service broadcaster).

In my opinion NPR is non-bias, but many like to think of it as liberal.

CNN, NPR are more middle of the road. NY Times has more liberal comlunists but again they were major cheerleaders in the run up to the Iraq War. To me it's not a question of liberal or conservative but what sells papers and what attracts viewers.

Fox News has a heavily conservative bias even though they say they're fair and balanced.

CNN is definitely not liberal. Middle of the road at best.

The Washington Post is extremely conservative.

The largest paper in my home state of NH is the Manchester Union-Leader, which is sickeningly conservative. They will only publish op-eds from conservative propagandists like Jonah Goldberg and Michelle Malkin. It's like one big liberal-bashing newspaper. It's a big accomplishment that NH went for Kerry with the Union Leader doing everything it could to get people to go for Bush.

I would never consider CNN liberal. Wolf Blitzer, Daryn Kagan, Paula Zahn, Judy Woodruff...I don't think so. If anything, it's slightly conservative - and at best it's in the middle.

The New York Times' editorial page is decidedly liberal (woo Maureen Dowd!), but in terms of what they cover as a newspaper they are very fair and critical of both Democrats and Republicans.

Sure that's how it's coming across..but Fox News is middle of the road? O'Reilly, Coulter and Hannity? Don't forget Geraldo! Riviera.

Look at this link on Fox & Friends and tell me how middle of the road that is:

As far as CNN goes - any network that played the Dean Scream over 700 times in a four day window is not liberal. Neither is a network that employs Bob Novak (Plamegate and close ties with the Swift Boat Veterans) and Daryn Kagan who is Rush's significant other.

What makes you think it leans towards a liberal perspective? I watch BBC news everyday and to me, they talk about the political parties more or less equally and are not prone to ignoring news stories for political reasons.

Well, I listen to NPR every morning and when they are discussing politics they always seem to report it in a very detached fashion, as if not really lending support towards either side. They don't bash either side either, which is probably why I find it to be middle of the road, though slightly liberal. They did a report on the inauguration followed by one on inaugural protests so it was fair time for both. They did reports on Powell and Jeb Bush visiting the tsunami sites and portrayed both in a very positive light.

I just love NPR so I'm advocating that it's the best news source.

CNN, I don't even know anymore. I haven't watched it since election night. Now, Fox News is definetly far right. I mean, there is no way Fox News is non-bias, it's one of the most notorious stations for being bias. I find ABC to be sort of bias towards the left, perhaps it's just Peter Jennings' election coverage though and his lack of subtlety.

Fox News is part of the Republican propaganda machine. Everyone knows that.
