'Batman' protest at queen's palace

Protester dressed as Batman on ledge of Buckingham Palace

LONDON, England (CNN) -- A fathers' rights campaigner dressed as Batman has evaded tight security to protest on the balcony at Buckingham Palace, Queen Elizabeth's London residence.

The queen was not at the palace at the time of the protest as she is on her summer break at Balmoral in Scotland, the palace said.

"There is an intruder," a palace spokeswoman told CNN on Monday. "It is a matter for the police."

The campaign group Fathers for Justice said protester Jason Hatch had been on the palace balcony for more than three hours.

The protester, standing on a ledge to the right hand side of the main balcony at the front of the palace, unfurled a banner that read: "Super dads of fathers 4 justice."

Also on the banner are the words: "Fighting for your right to your kids."

Two other intruders ran off after helping the demonstrator penetrate the palace grounds. Police said the men were detected by security cameras as they scaled palace railings.

Royal security was reviewed after a Daily Mirror reporter got a job at Buckingham Palace as a servant before U.S. President George W. Bush stayed there during a state visit in November last year.

Stand-up comedian Aaron Barschak also highlighted lax security by gate-crashing Prince William's 21st birthday party at Windsor in June last year.

Fathers 4 Justice, which says Britain's courts are biased against fathers in divorce cases involving child access, are notorious for their publicity stunts.

In the most high-profile incident, protesters pelted Prime Minister Tony Blair with flour-filled condoms as he was speaking in parliament in May.

It's not as freaky as it sounds - they dress up as the superheroes that their children love.

That seems so sad to me.
