I think that a lot can depend on who McCain (or Obama) picks as his advisors. I had considered George W. Bush to be somewhat of a moderate before he was elected, and his father was actually somewhat of a moderate, but he was heavily influenced by Rumsfeld and Cheney, which resulted in the policy decisions that got us into the war in Iraq.

Wes Clark might be a good choice for Obama. He has military experience in both combat and planning. I liked him in '04 and was a little disappointed that he didn't run this year. Also he's pretty much a moderate on social issues too so he might balance it out not that Obama is a wild-eyed lefty like some believe.

McCain's advisors need to tell him to stop laughing at his own jokes. It's pretty funny (not in a good way) when he does that in his speeches.

As to who influenced Bush 43 - who knows. It was more those bunch of neo-cons who were always pushing to invade Iraq from the 90's that seemed to guide him.

That's definitely true. George W. Bush should have listened to his father and James Baker. It was funny, I read somewhere that James Baker said that a lot of people thought Bush 41 made a mistake by not invading Iraq after the first Gulf War, but no one says that now!

I think every presidential candidate is fake in some ways. They do whatever it takes to get votes. If that means they have to be fake then they're going to do it.

I have yet to see Obama act that way.

I know...have you ever seen that video of Cheney from around 1994 saying what a mistake it would have been to invade Iraq? His reasoning was that as bad as Hussein was there was no one person/entity who could control all the different factions in Iraq without a civil war and/or massive bloodshed happening.

Wow, I never saw that! He should have listened to his own advice, because he was dead on. Something similar happened in Yugoslavia after Tito died. He ruled with an iron fist, but he kept all the warring factions under his thumb, but after he died, bitter ethnic conflicts between the peoples of the former Yugoslavia erupted, and it tore the country apart.

LMAO@Obama not being fake. Obama is very fake. It's like he puts on this act. He panders a lot too i.e. fake southern drawl/accent.

It's a shame that Tim Russert isn't going to be around this November for the election. I can't believe he died. I always enjoyed seeing him grill politicians especially Hillary.

It's more like World History, Lou! I love history. I majored in it in college, and it still fascinates me.

Wow, thanks so much! It's unbelievable how he completely reversed his position about going into Iraq, and that he said Saddam wasn't worth more Americans losing their lives. Too bad he didn't remember and live by what he said then when he became Vice President.

I was very sad to hear about his passing. I watched Meet The Press a lot on Sundays and enjoyed his interviews.

Yes..he really is one who should be impeached too. I can't remember if he was included in the articles of impeachment that Kuchinich put forth this week. He should have but I know they'll both get off free and clear.
