The mainstream media is in love with McCain. It would take a story of huge, scandalous proportions to make them even attempt to report objectively about him. It will be a close campaign.
We can at least agree that Obama gets our vote

McCain does play the Reagan role pretty well, but I'm telling you if he's running based on his stance on the war then he's gonna lose. Standing alongside Bush at a time when the economy is at it's worst is a death sentence IMO. He's gonna have to "flip flop" back to the center & win those independents. But hopefully if they've been following the race all along like I have they'll see just how 2 faced McCain is.

Like I've said before, the McCain of a year or 2 ago would've possibly gotten my vote, but it was clear to everyone last summer that he wasn't going to win his own party. So what did he do? He reversed his position on the war, he placated to the Religious Right & promised to continue the Bush economic policies.

I actually wish I could be voting for Edwards but it didn't work out like that. But IMO Obama was the best candidate standing after all the primaries.

McCain's best chance at the office was in 2000 when he got screwed by Rove and Bush. He still may very well win but it would be a diaster for this country. Economy, health care, the war - everything will hurt the country.

If he were to follow through on the promises he's made over the past 6 months or so yes! But I actually don't know what to expect from McCain any more. I don't think he would be a bad President only because I don't believe he would do some of the things he's suggested recently just to win over the Republican wing. In the end though I trust Obama more so than McCain.

Does anyone have any links to any websites or blogs that state both McCain's and Obama's stands on the major issues? I'd appreciate it.

Concerning McCain, I've viewed him as a moderate in the past, but it doesn't surprise me that he's caved in to the religious right and reversed his stance on the war to get the nomination. At this point, then, it's very difficult to know where he truly stands on the issues that will affect this country.

Hasn't Mccain always supported the war in Iraq? I remember seeing him on Sunday shows countless times and and he would always criticize the handling of it but I never heard him say anything like it was a mistake going in or he didn't support it. Im my opinion if Mccain loses the election I feel that is going to be a big reason why.

It's a sad commentary on our world, but I think the only way McCain wins is if another terrorist attack happens over the next 4-5 months. Then the fear mongering he will likely preach will actually have justification in many eyes.

That could swing it to McCain - sad as it is. Honestly I think his time has come and gone - his best chance was in 2000.

Now he's denying that he ever said that Clinton was mistreated by the media in Tuesday night's speech. I don't think it's intentional per se. The country needs a new direction. I know that's trite but we have such serious problems that we can't trust the old way of doing things anymore. They're not working except for the very rich in this country.

If Obama gets elected, I still don't see us getting out of Iraq anytime soon, because the situation we've created there my invading the country and overthrowing Saddam Hussein has left the country in a state of near civil war, and I don't think we could just unilaterally withdraw, and that disheartens me, because I don't want any more lives lost. Every time I read about a local funeral for someone that died in Iraq, it both saddens me and infuriates me, and I just don't know how we can withdraw from that country without seeing it descend into further chaos.

It's really the Catch-22 from hell.

If McCain wins, and if he does what he says he'll do, then it's looking like Iraq will keep going and Iran's a possibility. Hopefully, at some point in there, he'll look at the state of his armed forces and realize that it's time for these brave men and women to catch a break. Either that'll convince him to try to bring them home and not send them to Iran. Or it'll convince him to start a draft. Which is unlikely as it likely be the beginning of the ultimate groundswell of support for ending that conflict.

If Obama wins, he still can't bring the troops him immediately in good conscience. And all his detractors and political enemies can join in a chorus of putting the whole blame for the war on him. A lot of people have been singing the tune of how well it's going (less so, of course, as election day approaches; people do want to get re-elected). Once a Democrat is in power, they can tell the truth without looking like they're backstabbing their own party.

Gah.

The question is whether the U.S. can support the nation of Iraq indefinitely. The answer is no as far as I'm concerned. We don't have the financial, emotional and military capability of doing it. At some point Iraq has to stand up for itself and take care of itself. There really can't be an open-ended stay there.

Obama is for phased withdrawal if I'm not mistaken and we will have some sort of a presence there for the immediate time being. McCain's plan is for us to stay much, much longer. I think we have to hope that if Obama is elected that there can be some sort of a diplomatic plan put in place wherby Iraq and its's warring factions can agree on living together. It obviously won't be easy or immediate but that plus the engaging of other Middle East countries in the process is what's needed. At least it's a start.

Also I don't think that that Iraq neighbors have been fully engaged in this process for whatever reason and that has to change.

I do feel no matter who is president we are going to have a presence in Iraq for a long time unfortunately. I don't think we will have a situation were we 100% withdraw like in Vietnam.
