The way I saw it was that Obama laughed off the Spears/Hilton connection as being really silly. Which it was.

CNN did a piece from Copperhill, Tennessee last night. It wasn't a scientific survey but nearly every person they spoke to insisted that Obama was a Musllim, had a funny name, was trying to hide something etc. etc. The reporter said that when he asked them where they got this information they made vague replies that they read it somewhere, heard it somewhere etc., etc. It's scarey that some Americans are so misinformed.

Even though some are calling Obama arrogant and acting like he's President already he has a tough road ahead getting people to focus on the issues instead of this other stuff.

Yes, I saw the same segment. Nobody could give a good enough reason as to why they didn't like Obama - it all came from assumptions about the man. You know what they about "assuming." But Tennessee is a Republican state, right?

I think it's a shame how McCain can be as nasty as he wants to be BUT if Obama even tries to get on that same low level...it's "oh no he's Muslim...I had a feeling he was no good, I don't want him, etc" from America at large.

Talk about double standards. That's BS in it's puriest form

Tennessee is a Republican state so it's pretty much going to go for McCain no matter what.

But even in Hawaii (where Obama was born and raised) I hear the same thing from people who should know better.

And now...McCain is saying that Obama is playing the race card.

Well, I have no problem with people voting Republican because that's the party that best represents their values, interests, etc.

I have a bit of an issue with people voting Republican because that's what everyone else they know does... but, whatever, to a certain extent, we all do that.

I have to wonder though about people who say they would vote Republican because they think the Democratic candidate is a Muslim. The whole "this is wrong" aspect of it aside... I don't know... pick up a book, people. Islam is not the enemy.

Or just to be bitter because they didn't get the presidential nominee they wanted or are misinformed about certain candidates. They a whole lot of that going on.

Well, I think McCain may have lost a fan with the Hilton family:

News from WENN

Hilton's Mother Blasts McCain

3 August 2008 6:16 PM, PDT

Paris Hilton's mother has blasted presidential candidate John McCain for "wasting money" on an advertising campaign which mocks her daughter.

The Republican last week released a TV commercial that dubs rival Barack Obama a celebrity, and likens him to Hilton and Britney Spears.

And Kathy Hilton, who with her husband Rick donated thousands of dollars to McCain's campaign, is furious.

She tells the Huffington Post, "It is a complete waste of the money John McCain's contributors have donated to his campaign. It is a complete waste of the country's time and attention at the very moment when million of people are losing their homes and their jobs. And it is a completely frivolous way to choose the next President of the United States."

Go Kathy! So will she join the other side now?

More celebs showing their support for Obama this weekend:

News from WENN

Affleck And Damon Speak Out For Obama

3 August 2008 6:16 PM, PDT

Hollywood stars Ben Affleck and Matt Damon pledged their support for presidential wannabe Barack Obama at a fundraising event in Miami, Florida on Saturday.

The pair was accompanied by their pregnant wives Jennifer Garner and Luciana Barroso at the gala, to raise money for the Democrat's push for the White House.

The foursome paid $1,000 (GBP500) each for tickets to the black tie event and Affleck, Garner and Damon all gave speeches.

A source tells People.com, "Jennifer Garner gave the first speech supporting Obama, and she was very witty, clever and funny. She was followed by her husband Ben, then Matt Damon. The men gave serious political speeches on how the country needs change."

Damon later explained his support for Obama, "Mostly because I don't like the path this country's on and if McCain is elected we'll be continuing down that same path."

In Florida of all places. I commend them. I'm sure that wasn't easy.

I'm glad Kathy Hilton spoke out. Aren't the Hilton and Britney Spears Republican? That's what made the ad even more offensive.

John McCain is becoming desperate.

The Hiltons contributed to McCain's campaign. I don't know if that makes them Republicans (some people contribute to all the campaigns, I guess it's as good a tax break as any), but they did contribute to his campaign. So, you know, considering how expensive adds like that are? Whatever they contributed was probably less than that add cost.

I'd be pissed, too. It'd be like paying a man to insult your child.

As for Britney Spears, she's apparently a registered Republican, though I fail to see how that girl has any political opinions one way or another.

I was watching Extra and apparently Paris came out with an ad in response to what McCain did. She doesn't insult the man but says things like "Oh, let's make the White House pink!" and whatever. She didn't show support for either side according to the ad. Then McCain responded back to the ad with some comment that didn't even make sense.

I can't stand Paris but it was kind of funny. I think she made more sense than McCain did and does.

OMG, that add was freaking awesome. I can't stand the fact that she seems to be famous... for being famous, but that add was brilliant.
