Presidential Candidates 2008 Discussion, Part Two: There's just so much to say!

Anyone have some more news? Do you think anyone is emerging as a "favourite" yet, or is it far too early still?

Some news:

Giuliani confirmed today: he will be running in 2008

I'm not surprised to hear about Giuliani. But thanks for the article! I'll try and read it later.

Personally, I really like Obama, and ceilirose posted some informative links about Bill Richardson on the last thread that got me thinking about him as well.

I will probably vote for Obama even if he doesn't end up on the Democratic ticket.

Okay, I say that, but I really do think he's the best candidate. I'd also consider giving my vote to Clinton, Richardson, and Edwards. It should be a fairly easy election choice in my house.

I know, right.

Is it wrong that I'm looking at the whole DNC and saying to myself, mentra-like: "Please don't implode. Please don't implode?"

Yes, wrong! But if it were the RNC I'd say not wrong.

I'm leaning towards Giuliani. I was hoping he'd run so yay.

I don't like Guilani at ALL. He is my least republican canidate.

I think he got a second chance and he should retire at this point. I am probably the only one - but I still remember what a shady man he was and how everyone in NYC atleast HATED him before 9/11.

The thing about Guiliani is that I don't see he's qualified... I like him. Heck, if a Republican is going to be elected, at this point, Giuliani would be my favourite, he's pro-choice, pro-gay rights, and he's divorced. So you know he's open-minded.

But, I mean, yes, he was very comforting after 9/11... but he's never been in charge of anything larger than a city. Yes, a big city... can you really go from mayor to president? What do I know, but I still don't see it.

I agree with you Sunny. I do not think he's that qualified either. It's a major step going from mayor to president. But at least he's some kind of Executive experience.

Ruby_Slippers, I can remember as well. Yes, he brought NYC together after those tragic events but that does not a president make.

If 9/11 had never happened then I don't think Guiliani would have ever been considered for the position. I have a good friend in NYC and he wasn't very popular nor was he thought of as a good mayor prior to 9/11. He'll have a hard time getting the Christian Right vote - he's pro choice, pro gun control, supports gay rights and has had two very public affairs while married. Stranger things have happened but I don't see how he'll get the nomination.

Only looking at current candidates (offically declared) who does everyone think will get the nomination for each party?

Right now, I think McCain would get the Republican nomination and it's so tight with Obama and Clinton right now, I'm not sure which would get the nomination, but I think it would be between the two of them.

I saw this at Kos today and it blew my mind. Brings too mind a certain two word phrase used to slam John Kerry again and again and again...

McCain, in 1999:

Quote:
"[C]ertainly in the short term, or even the long term, I would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade, which would then force X number of women in America to [undergo] illegal and dangerous operations."
McCain 2007.

Quote:
"I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned," the Arizona senator told about 800 people in South Carolina, one of the early voting states.

Eh, not a single candidate has caught my attention as of yet from any party.
