Quite frankly I've been so fed up with the way the political campaign has been going that I've stopped paying attention to it all. It's like you can close your eyes and just easily pick out the states that'll choose Clinton, Obama or McCain. It's obviously become a race issue even though people think it's not. Obama is drawing most of his support from African Americans and Clinton is drawing her support from mostly working middle-class Whites and Hispanics. McCain isn't even breaking a sweat - he has his support from those who are Republican and that's it. I'll do my part on Election Day but I pray that whoever wins will be able to repair the financial mess that has been done to this country.

From my very removed vantage point, it does seem like the whole Democratic side has turned very ugly. I think that's the shame, because I like both candidates.

It's gone from a "good" Democratic fight to a point where I actually think the candidate will be decided at the Convention. That will be an awful move because it will split the party in half. My gut is telling me that barring a huge surprise - McCain will win. I don't think Clinton can win and I don't know that Obama will either. The country isn't ready for a woman or a person of color overall. I wish it were different but I don't think so.

I was talking with some friends over the weekend and that seems to be the consensus as well up here (mind you, this is based on an informal conversation and the least scientific survey every done): McCain for the win. And not even because people prefer him or anything, but because... Well, some people think Obama and Clinton will "split the vote," if you will. Others think the United States isn't ready for a female president or an African-American one.

I say this with love. And I say it knowing full well that Americans, as individuals, are nowhere near as conservative as the world at large makes them out to be.

We'll see, I suppose!

No..I don't think we're as conservative as people think either. I think the media shapes the elections. They decide the story and it's sometimes hard to get to the truth. For months Clinton was the presumptive nominee - she gets knocked down a bit - she's still fighting. McCain is a maverick - has a good relationship with the media. Obama is too cerebral - now the bitter elitist thing. It's fairly discouraging because whoever gets the office has such a mess to clean up - both domestically and internationally. I'm not sure the best candidate always wins - it's the one who people feel the most comfortable with.

I am starting to think that maybe the Democrats made a mistake not going with Edwards. I don't know.

I completely agree. I knew Penn would pick her. At least 19% of Penn folks had the gaul to admit what many of us have said all along that race is important to some. Oddly, I thought it only really matter in southern states, but I sure was wrong

McCain is so going to win. I wouldn't mind a republican just not another Bush lacky duplicate like McCain. IF only Giuilani had gotten his act together and Romm too

No race does matter to some. I've said it all along and I wish it wasn't so.

Clinton is now trying to get the Florida and Michigan primaries counted. You just can't change the rules once you've started the whole process. She has to win the rest of the primaries, get something like 70% of the uncommitted super delegates and I'm not sure how that's going to happen. You can't tell her not to stop running but I don't know at this point how it's going to end up on good note.

No you can't change the rules, but not encouraging the idea that every vote should be counted isn't very democratic either IMO.

I don't buy that having a close election is a negative thing for the party. On the contrary it has raised the level of interest & will only strengthen the eventual nominee IMO. Afterall what is the one constant negative about Obama? He hasn't been "tested". Well I'd say this will serve as a major test.

If McCain wins I'm moving to Canada lol

ondering something[QUOTE=Nayden-fan868;22438562]another Bush lacky like McCain. IF only QUOTE]

Mccain has not exactly been a Bush Lackey though. He has been a nuisance I am sure to Bush on some issues like in 2004 when they were trying to get a constitution ban on Gay Marriage and Mccain was against it and spoke out or Mccain speaking out against what has gone on in Guantanamo Bay and wanting to close it. Also a lot of issues he has gone against the president on. Of course there are issues he is with him on as well but I wouldn't call him a out right Bush lackey. I know for a fact Cheney despises Mccain.

Hi ceilirose I am just wondering something. I know you don't like Mccain and think he would be a bad president but I am sure you can agree I hope on some issues like the environment Mccain will be better then Bush on.

He's ok on the environment but on Roe v. Wade, Iraq, the economy (permanent tax cuts for the rich), health care reform and his relationships with lobbyists - I have a problem with him. He's not this "maverick" that everyone says he is. McCain would just be more of the same on the issues that matter to me most.

The funny thing is McCain will likely flip flop back to the center on some of those issues especially if facing Obama.

I think the divisive and bitter contest between Obama and Clinton is doing harm to the Democratic party and it will increase McCain's chances of getting elected.
