| Politics/entertainment survey This thread isn't about really about a news story or political issue. I am doing a survey for one my psych classes and I'm testing whether people are more familiar with and more interested in entertainment/pop culture news or politics and news concerning current events. The survey is in the form of a rank order scale. That is where you are simply ranking the items you see in front of you. I don't need your names and/or where you live but I do need the following information if you don't mind. I also obtained persmission from one of the moderators to do put this survey up. I hope it doesn't cause any problems or anything bad. I'm just doing this survey so I can write a paper about it and pass my class. What is your age? ________ What is your gender? M or F What is your college classification if applicable? Freshman Sophomore Junior Senior What is your race? Caucasian African-American Hispanic Asian Other The following contains statements about news stories of the past year that deal with pop culture, current events, and politics. Please rank each statement in each section according to how familiar they are to you. Place a 1 by the statement that is most familiar to you, a 2 next to the second most familiar to you, and so on. No two statements can have the same ranking. The meanings of the nicknames Brangelina, Tomkat, and K-Fed Mel Gibson’s drunken tirade Michael Richards’ racist tirade during comedic routine The Madonna baby adoption controversy Britney Spears and Kevin Federline’s divorce Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson’s divorce The mysterious death of Anna Nicole Smith’s son TV shows go online The emergence of Youtube Steroid use in Major League Baseball The Mark Foley Scandal The war in Iraq The U.S. - Mexico border problem Global Warming John Mark Karr briefly being a suspect in the JonBenet Ramsey murder case 2006 Mid-term elections Democrats win both the House and Senate E. Coli epidemic in spinach in America U.S. population reaching 300 million people Iran and North Korea developing nuclear power/weapons Do you tend to be more interested and familiar with entertainment news or news concerning politics? I would really appreciate if you posters would fill out this survey. It would help me out a lot. | |||

| Hey - not sure if the thoughts of a UK resident are useful but this is such an interesting topic I'm gonna wade in. What is your age? 21 What is your gender? F What is your college classification if applicable? Senior (last year of degree) What is your race? Caucasian The meanings of the nicknames Brangelina, Tomkat, and K-Fed 12 Mel Gibson’s drunken tirade 10 Michael Richards’ racist tirade during comedic routine 18 The Madonna baby adoption controversy 3 Britney Spears and Kevin Federline’s divorce 11 Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson’s divorce 16 The mysterious death of Anna Nicole Smith’s son 17 TV shows go online 19 The emergence of Youtube 4 Steroid use in Major League Baseball 20 The Mark Foley Scandal 7 The war in Iraq 1 The U.S. - Mexico border problem 13 Global Warming 5 John Mark Karr briefly being a suspect in the JonBenet Ramsey murder case 6 2006 Mid-term elections 8 Democrats win both the House and Senate 9 E. Coli epidemic in spinach in America 14 U.S. population reaching 300 million people 15 Iran and North Korea developing nuclear power/weapons 2 Do you tend to be more interested and familiar with entertainment news or news concerning politics? I am more interested in politics by I do like the odd bit of celebrity gossip. But I do think a lot of stuff you get my osmosis - thinks like Britney's marriage and Anna Nicole Smith's son get so much attention that you absorb it without really thinking about it. I tend to be most familiar with the stories that get the most coverage, however I do tend to tune out when celebrity gossip comes on. Don't really give a damn who's sleeping with whom and all of that. Global warming's the exception, though. It doesn't get covered as much as, say, the war in Iraq, but it's something that I'm aware of every time I step outside my house, so... __________________ Sunny "The work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die." avie by Jessie | |||
