People are going to be dying from eating meat

Food safety fears over animals fed to animals-Life & Style-Health-TimesOnline

WTF?!! Great, now there's going to be more people dying from eating meat, all on account of sloppy farming. Idiots!!

Let's remind anyone who doesn't know: The ban on feeding animals to animals was introduced because the practice led to BSE and CJD and lots of people dying from an INCURABLE disease. Now they want to risk more?

(Feeding pigs to chickens and chickens to pigs may not lead to bse/cjd but it can lead to Salmonella, which can also kill and god knows what else it can lead to.)

Well, that was an interesting read. To be honest, I had no idea that sort of thing of feeding pigs to chickens, or the other way around, actually happened though I heard about the whole mad cow disease that went around.

But you're right, this is actually stupid. Now they're considering relaxing the ban so they could research what's going on? Hopefully they don't intend on using those animals as a consumer product for people who are actually going to eat them. Still...really really crazy imo. There was a reason that the ban was there in the first place.

My first thought? It's "silence of the farm animals." My second thought? So wrong. I understand they have a lot of carcass left over after they take what they use, but can't they find better uses for them?

Why would they even think of relaxing the ban? Surely by now people have come up with alternatives?

I've been getting increasingly uncomfortable with eating meat whenever I think about a lot of the stuff that is involved in it. :/

Well, I wouldn't stop eating meat because of that or feel really unconfortable when consuming it.

We still have Consumer protection laws and meat must be tested for various diseases before it gets into the supermarket or McDonald's.

Those farmers just cut off their nose to spite their face...

Didn't we have those laws in place when the whole Mad Cow thing broke out in the first place though?

Nope. The laws were brought in later BECAUSE of the mad cow thing.

Not so much over this (although personally I'd never eat McDonalds meat *shudder*) - more over the way the animals are treated and so on. That's a bit OT, though...I don't know. I'll never be a vegetarian, but I do think it's important to think about what goes into your food.

Thanks for posting the article.

I get the feeling we're just running in circles.
'Til the next mad cow disease outbreak... or something different we're not able to imagine right now.
