Maybe the Olympics isn't the time and place to do something about it anyway. I mean, if the decision's already been made to go there, there isn't much that individual nations can do to change things, is there?

Good point. Political discussion can be discussed any other time but the Olympics is for the Olympics.

At any rate, I do think it's the one time where most people try to put politics aside to focus on the sports competition.

I actually think Welshgirly was repsonding to the comment you made about not understanding why people who are not from the US would an interest in US politics. I cant speak for her, but i saw that as her providing you with an explanation for the current election, not for why we should be helping China

Thanks for pointing that out, Bella.

I should have made it clear that I wasn't responding to Tash's comments but rather trying to take what Caroline was saying and go in my own direction with it.

I do have to wonder how any Americans (or non-Americans) feel shocked that non-Americans feel vested in American politics. As the only superpower left (right now anyway), they have such an impact on international politics and the general internation agenda that it seems so natural for me, as a non-American, to me to feel utterly engrossed in American politics.
