Off-Topic Thread: Because uninterrupted 24/7 News & Politics is best left to C-SPAN

Or CPAC, if you're Canadian. I actually don't even know if C-SPAN is 24 hour. Hopefully a little creative license is ok!

So even though this board has never had an OT thread before, Lexis and I thought we'd be a little revolutionary (sans guillotine) and create one. We do have the Intro thread, but people don't really have a place to get to know who they're debating (outside the debate itself), or talk about unrelated things like college, career ideas, psychotic professors, pet hamsters, etc. But now, we do! Hope everyone enjoys the thread and has fun.

Well,

Off topic things, huh? Actually, my brother and I used to love watching CPAC. When you watch the day-to-day stuff, some of it is so random that it's pretty hilarious...

Well, in the UK we watch BBC Parliament not C-SPAN (Or CPAC!). But not often cause lets face it, sometimes it gets a little tedious. I understand some Lords were caught napping in the middle of debates!

Unfortunatly, I can not nap. I pulled a muscle in my back the other day (and whined about it to all and sundry!) and need to catch up on the work I missed. And maybe watch more JAG reruns - I'm shamefully addicted.

I've always enjoyed watching C-Span covering the Congress late at night when members of Congress are speaking on the record - basically to no one else in the Hall. Never quite understood it but it's actually a pretty quirky thing to watch. They get very animated and into their speech and there's usually only one or two people sitting in the Hall. Maybe security and the person who has to record it?

Not a pet hamster but a dog who inhaled a treat last Friday night and had indigestion (to put it mildly) for about 36 hours. Everything is back to normal now - no sucking on ice cubes every 2 hours to keep from being dehydrated.

I have a friend who checks Hansard (the record of the Canadian Parliamentary proceedings) and lets me know when something funny happens. Like when Jack Layton accidentally referred to BSE as SARS for a good five minutes...or when he goofed when talking about "big gas"

Lexis, I've never watched JAG - what's it about?

JAG is show about American Navy lawyers who try cases related to the Navy - officers accused of misconduct, companies trying to screw them out of money etc. Its really quite good - really funny and proudly patriotic. I'm not an American but I've been known to get all teared up because of the stories of heroism (some of them based on real cases) they tell. And when they dedicate episodes to the soldiers...ugh, I'm such a wimp!

Plus, there's a long running "will they, won't they" romance story between a really handsome Navy Commander and a Marine lawyer. I'm a sucker for the angst.

It's done by the same people who do NCIS - also a kick ass show!

JAG was so much better than NCIS.

Is it sad I just woke up as well? Thank God I do not have class on Thursday.

I like the stories on NCIS - I don't care for that couple that is supposed to have some sort of sexual tension going on? That is the premise right?

Well, it is a new revolution indeed. I thought the News board was gonna be unique and not have a OT thread and let the regular posters continue debating and challenging each other

Um...ahh...work tomorrow! I need sleep but have not been getting any

It's not the weekend quite yet! I still have one more day of work and then class before I get to spend the weekend catching up on sleep. And homework. I'm so behind on my reading - do professors actually believe students read (and absorb!) all the hundreds of pages they assign? I was lazy this week, though, I watched both my TV shows (new VMars yay!) and only read a few articles.

If this board was conservative biased and dominated by conservatives and Republicans, would you still post here?

I would still post here if the board was majority conservative, I'd just disagree with people over different topics than I do now. I don't consider the board to be biased, though.
