Off-Topic #3: Congress goes on vacation in August and so do we!

Um, yeah, dorky title. I'll change it if someone has a good suggestion

Aw Not even a quick day trip? My best friend and I just decided we're driving down to Portland, Maine next week. We've never been and we have no idea what it's like, but it'll be a quick road trip and hopefully it'll be fun!

(I was tempted to write Parliament insyead of Congress )

I do believe I'm going to Australia in mid-August. Well, I have the tickets, and I'd like to visit my friend, but some work stuff is quite up in the air right now, so I might have to give my tickets to my brother and let him take a friend or something. *shrug*

I'd love to visit Australia, especially since I have a few friends there too, but it's incredibly expensive to fly there I'm sticking with budget vacations as much as possible. I don't think I would want to live there, though - my co-worker and I were just discussing the snakes and spiders and sharks lurking there

Can you change the dates of your tickets?

Usually you'd have to pay a fee to change tickets. And it's not cheap either.

I'm on vacation now. Go back to work on Monday.

Didn't go any where. But then again, there's lots to do in Montreal during the summer. Been enjoying hanging out, etc. Went to see 5 films at the Fantasia Film Festival.

Also saw the Police in concert last night! The show was totally awesome!

Oooh, a friend of mine was at that concert last night. Glad to hear it was good. And yeah, Montreal in the summertime is amazing

It's not really UNcheap either... well, I think it depends on who you're flying with. You and I have never had to pay over $50 to change a domestic ticket via Delta. Either way, it's probably cheaper from your wallet than cheaper from your mind - I can't imagine passing up a great trip to another country!

(That's a fib, btw - I'm terrified of flying over water.)

Aww. I used to be afraid of flying over water, but then something occurred to me (it isn't really positive, but it's logical) - if the plane you're on is gonna crash, you're pretty much screwed regardless of what it crashes into.

In this case, changing when I fly out wouldn't really help. If I push it back any further, the trip won't be long enough to be worth spending over a day on a plane, and if I push when I come back back, too, then I won't be ready when school starts. I've been to Australia quite a few times, so it isn't like I'd miss the trip of a lifetime. Plus my friend I'm going to visit is probably going to see me at Christmastime either way- he usually comes up and spends the month I have off from mid-December to mid-January here.

I was gonna go away for my birthday to avoid the phone calls and whatnot, but I've been planning a trip in October for a while now and it came down to finances. So, I'm sticking around for my birthday (though I will be getting out of the house for most of it and unplugging the phones while I am at home) so that I can go away in October.

You win some, you lose some. I couldn't afford both.

Where are you planning to go?

I was actually planning on getting away for my birthday as well, but like I said... I'm not sure that will happen now. I was going to fly out on August 12th, and since I'd cross the international date line, my birthday (8/13) technically wouldn't exist for me, which is... awesome for me. Heh. I'm not a big fan of birthdays.

elisheva: The concert was definitely very good! The level of musicianship type stuff was amazing. The drummer guy is totally awesome. A lot of classical type percussion stuff with tympany, metalaphone, etc., etc. The guitar stuff was also very cool. Was nice to be at a concert which was a good mix of vocal and instramental type stuff. A lot of groups are better on their albums than they are in person. In my opinion, The Police are way better live!

And yep... Montreal in the summertime is definitely amazing.

I am planning to go to Toronto for a few days in August though. Am going to the SFX Convention. Also plan to hang out with friends, etc.

I didn't think of it that way before - I might now!

So does an American citizen have to have a passport with themselves if they leave the country for a vacation even if the vacation is just like a week or two?

Any of you ever collect those caps on 2 liter and 20 oz. sodas? Sodas like Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, and Coca Cola usually have a website that you can go to and type a code on the cap on their website. You get some points for it and if you have a lot of points you can get a prize or something. I do that with Coca Cola. The only thing that I have won from that was a free 2 liter Coca Cola. Each cap from Coke is worth 3 points. I think the rewards thing ends at the end of the year. If you have a lot you can get miles toward a plane ticket but I think it might be a scam. If I had over 6000 points from Coca Cola, I would be able to get a Wii. LOL
