Newspapers for troops call for Rumsfeld's ouster

Quote:
An influential chain of newspapers considered must-reading by military forces from California to Baghdad will call for the ouster of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld in a scathing editorial to be published Monday
Quote:
"Rumsfeld has lost credibility with the uniformed leadership, with the troops, with Congress and with the public at large. His strategy has failed, and his ability to lead is compromised. And although the blame for our failures in Iraq rests with the secretary, it will be the troops who bear its brunt," the editorial says, according to an advance copy released Friday. "The time has come, Mr. President, to face the hard bruising truth: Donald Rumsfeld must go."
Quote:
The editorial will run in the 250,000 copies of Army Times, Navy Times, Marine Corps Times and Air Force Times. The newspapers are published under the umbrella Military Times Media Group by Gannett Co. Inc., not by the U.S. military, and have been popular among American forces since World War II.

"It is extremely widely read and influential for the professional military," said David Segal, director of the Center for Research on Military Organization at the University of Maryland.

This is pretty big. Especially since Bush recently said that Rumsfeld would be there through the rest of his administration. Now you have troops saying they want him gone.

Bush has stuck with Rumsfeld through all the screw ups and mismanagement. The "Decider" has decided but I hope some of this gets through to him.

That would only happen in a good world.

Bush won't do anything until the elections if at all. I think it's an ego thing at this point combined with wanting to cement his place in history. Whatever that may be.

The military really has taken the brunt of all of these failed policies. Rumsfeld has been a disaster.

This may be OT but the neo-cons (Adelman, Pearle etc.) who were all for the Iraq war are coming out in a Vanity Fair article taking aim directly at Bush and even Rice. They even think what's happened is a big mistake.

There's been alot of talk about certain things decreasing the morale of troops. Often times those things really aren't doing much if anything to decrease the morale. I'd say this though would be one of those things that would decrease it. They don't have any faith in Rumsfeld but yet they're being told to deal with it.

I support Bush but I wouldn't mind if Rumsfield got canned. The only thing is I don't really think anyone wants to have Rumsfield job's right now. The person that would replace Rumsfield would have a ton of pressure to do a better job.
