News & Politics OT Thread #6 ~ The Breeze Becomes a Gale

As you were...

And, in answer to your question, Caroline, I did relax this weekend.

And then Monday came and we got a couple feet of snow. So, yeah, in the past 36 hours, I've been out shovelling three separate times.

Basically, it started snowing yesterday morning and it hasn't stopped since then.

Hence the title.

Sunny, I love the thread title. It is quite appropriate for what you're dealing with right now. Just promise that you'll stay bundled up so you don't catch a cold, okay?

No worry, I always bundle up.

But I'll just take this opportunity to point out that being cold has actually very little to do with catching a cold since bacteria don't survive much of at all in frigid temperatures.

Okay, I'm done now.

So, how are you?

Just to change things up, we're super busy at work right now, but I'm sure it will be alright. A colleague of mine just retired, so we've going through the adjustment period of taking over her workload.

Congrats to your co-worker on the retirement. I bet she is super happy.

The cold weather here in Florida just isn't agreeing with me. I know it's nothing compared to what you're going through but I've been trying to fight off this stuffy nose and little cough. Grr, of course this happens right before the winter break.

Hey, at least you're getting a winter break to recoup!

We had our office party last night. It was kind of exhausting, but a lot of fun. We managed to have a fairly diverse group at our table, so that was interesting.

Now, we're buckling down as there's a huge snowstorm in the forecast for tomorrow. It's my cousin's birthday, so I'm very grateful that I will be getting a ride. It's not that far from my house, but given the forecasted storm, I'm happy I won't have to walk.

I hope you had a good time! Where did you guys go for the office party? We actually have ours tomorrow at TGI Fridays but it probably won't be a large turnout but we'll see. And yes, the break will be good. I could really use one.

We had our office party in one of the conference rooms of a local Hyatt. At least, I think it must be some sort of conference room. You know, with round tables, a dance floor and caterers?

I gotta say, it's a good thing the company was good, because the food was pretty ordinary. Well, the service was good, too. It's usually a pain getting something to drink at those shindigs, because I don't drink alcohol and I can't stand drinking water.

But, this time, the server was very quick in providing me with a cran-Perrier thing that hit just the spot.

Meanwhile, we've had another snow storm over the weekend. It's not so bad since the weekend started off so mild that we had freezing rain, which diminished the height of the snow banks. So at least there was room to shovel.

Anyway, I'm very envious of your break, I have to admit. Christmas is always the most stressful period of the year for us, what with clients freaking out because the end of the year is coming nigh and they want to wrap up their expenditures and also because a lot of people take vacation days (naturally) so the rest of us have to make up for their absence absent.

In short, more work with less people to do it.

So, how are the Christmas break going?

I'm really hoping to get all my shopping done before Friday.

Ooh, enjoy your vacation.

And I think I'll be alright. For all intents and purposes, all I'm waiting on is a package that was sent today (which means it should arrive Thursday, at the latest, but probably tomorrow or Wednesday).

I just wanted to see if I couldn't put another pair of PJs in there for my mum.

But I still have the low-grade migraine, so I have to wait and see how I feel at the end of the day before making any big shopping decisions.

Hey, I call that a plan of sorts.

Be sure to enjoy your time off, Kar. I mean, I don't even need to say it, but you really do deserve it.

And I'm fine. I had a random night of sleeplessness last night, so I've been on the watch for a re-emergence of the migraine. But so far, so good. So I think I'm out of the woods.

My brother's last presents got to the post office today, so all that's hanging in the balance right now is my mum's last PJ and wrapping everything up. All in all, it should be alright.

Of course, work is a completely different issue. But, as my co-worker keeps saying, we can only do what we can do. So even though we're both swimming in work at the moment, there's really no use getting stressed about it.

By the way, thanks for dropping in here. I was starting to hear the echo a little bit.

I hope that migraine goes away, Sunny. I don't know how you put up with all that cold weather. I get annoyed when it hits even in the near 60's here.

Well mom called me after I left her house last night to make sure I saved a day for her on my vacation to repaint her bedroom. Should be fun though.

Well... sorry I've been MIA. Yesterday, after work, I went in for a little last-minute shopping. Key word: a little.

I was in, I was out. And then I got to the metro and it was dead. It stalled for an hour. And I would have taken a bus home, but I don't know the bus routes much of at all. So I just waited it out in the metro, which was fine for the most part. There was a group of young men who let their frustration be known several times with a lot of expletives, but that was the extent of the stressful stuff.

I still got home pretty late, completely dehydrated and without having eaten supper, taken a shower or really had time to unwind in any real way. And then I checked my e-mail and it said that was down for several hours. So, I admit, I didn't even check to see if it might be back.

Bleh.

And today's been a long day as well since, after work, I still had to clean house and wrap my presents.

Tomorrow, there's a good chance I won't be on here either. We're going to my mum's to celebrate Christmas Eve, so I don't know how late it'll be by the time I get back.

Meanwhile, though, Caroline. I don't blame you for being grouchy about the cold weather. It's been hovering in the 20s (Fahrenheit, around -5C, give or take a little) here and it's been the bane of my existence. And this is nothing, really. It gets much colder.

Also, I totally wilt when the temperature rises above 77F (25C). Like, seriously, I'm incapable of functioning normally. So I think we're just both very used to the climates we've grown up in. It's really normal, when you think about it.
